Thisposition will be assigned to a project in Langley TownshipBC.

Theresponsibilities of the Health and Safety Coordinatorinclude :

  • Responsiblefor managing the Health Safety and Environmentalprogram;
  • Involvessupporting all area functional units including Operations DrillingCompletions andConstruction;
  • Liaisewith all HSE Advisor to provide guidance in accordance with ourOHSMS as well as CORrequirements;
  • Conductsite inspections to verify compliance or identify deficiencies withexpected practices and behaviours identify hazards and suggestcontrols related to the various jobs procedures equipment orparticularsituations;
  • ControlHealth and Safety related documentation to ensure that it continuesto meet current regulations when it is distributed to projects foruse;
  • Assistin accident investigations with the projectteam.
  • Providesupport in adhering to our Event Management Protocols andProcedures including ensuring all reporting requirements aremet;
  • EvaluateASETs and other risk analysis tools for accuracy andthoroughness;
  • Recommendappropriate means of accident and incident prevention to managersrelated to corrective actionsrequired;
  • Assistin the development of project emergency response / evacuation plansfor variousprojects;
  • Participatein official inquiries by Government Officials according toestablished rules and provide projects with guidance to comply withorders;
  • Counselmanagement (PM superintendent foreman) and workers on the steps totake to meet the safetyrequirements;
  • Participatein the creation of various project specific standards methods andsafetyprocedures;
  • Maintaincontact with sites and provide support to enable them to develop apositive safety culture on theirprojects;
  • Ensureconsistency in expected safety performance on projects and verifythat the progressive discipline system is being fairly andconsistently applied on allprojects;
  • Enterinformation daily into the EBC SafetyDatabase;
  • Trackprojects and divisional statistics related to both proactiveactivities and events to ensure that they fall in line withexpectations;
  • Maintainsafety related files in a properly structured manner both relatedto hard copies and electronicfiles;
  • Assistwith COR auditing as directed by the Provincial HSEManager.

Requirements

  • Completionof a College or University program related to Safety practices inConstruction;
  • CRSPpreferred;
  • Workon Construction / Industrial sites specifically in BritishColumbia;
  • Minimum5 years in a health and safety role within the heavy civilconstructionindustry;
  • Geographicand Cultural Diversity Exposure to several regions companies andpeople to gain awareness of safety expectations and differences inbusinesspractices;
  • Thoroughknowledge of incident investigations and root causeanalysis;
  • Proficiencyin the use of computerrelated business tools such as MicrosoftOffice (Word Excel PowerPoint) and other commonly used programs(Paint Adobe Acrobat Database Programs and InternetBrowsers);
  • Filemanagement (copy paste rename file and find) as well as takingscreen shots and using basic graphics files (paint) to crop orhighlight pictures and addtext;
  • OccupationalHealth and Safety training related to applicable Acts andRegulations and an understanding of the background related to therequirement so they are able to describe why something should bedone when questioned onit;
  • Healthand safety certifications including at a minimum a CHSO / NCSOProvincial recognition as well as working towards a minimum of GoldSeal Canadian Construction Association National Certification.
  • Adesire serious ambition and action plan towards achieving a CRSPCHSC or other senior OHS designation should beexpected;
  • Otherstandard safety related certifications (or the ability to achievethem) that allow for ease of moving on / between projects.
  • First AidConfined SpacesTraining);
  • Abilityto work independently and communicate effectively when workingwithinteams.
