Reporting to the Senior Environmental Inspector and Environmental Manager, this position will be responsible for conducting environmental inspections, monitoring, and sampling tasks, as required, to accurately check all construction activities and document compliance with the environmental obligations and commitments of the project.

The inspector’s role will be performed on an active construction site where multidisciplinary experience or knowledge with environmental protection measures and typical construction activities will be required.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the project’s environmental compliance efforts. This position requires an individual with strong organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with various Teams within Mobilinx.

Role and General Responsibilities

Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and project requirements.

Document findings and using an online tool and report any non-compliance issues to senior environmental staff.

Maintain an up-to-date and detailed record of all environmental action items, ensuring they are logged and tracked in the online tool.

Regularly follow up on outstanding action items to ensure timely resolution and compliance with project standards.

  • Ensure environmental issues are addressed and requirements are met in accordance with the Environmental approvals and Project Agreement.
  • Determine the nature of environmental deficiencies and provide recommendations and actions to be taken to ensure compliance and prevent or mitigate potential environmental impacts.
  • Investigate environmental incidents and public complaints related to environmental matters, and effectively report findings and recommendations.
  • Perform daily handheld air quality readings on-site, ensuring that all measurements are accurately recorded.
  • Coordinate and oversee monthly water sampling, ensuring all samples meet regulatory and project-specific requirements. Maintain a detailed record of sampling results and ensure they are properly filed.
  • Communicate with the Environmental and Construction Teams.
  • Support environmental third-party vendors at the project site as needed.
  • Supervision and coordination and reporting of spills and remedial activities.
  • Provide Environmental Awareness and Orientation Training through on-site toolbox talks and procedure rollouts.
  • Promote environmental awareness of the Environmental Management System and environmental requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly environmental reports, compiling data from inspections, air monitoring, and water sampling activities.
  • Maintain organized and detailed records of all environmental monitoring activities, including air quality data, water sampling results, and action item resolutions.
  • Work closely with the Senior Environmental Field staff, Environmental Coordinator, Environmental Compliance Officer, and other project staff to ensure smooth communication and coordination of environmental activities.
  • Provide suggestions and recommendations for improving environmental protection practices and addressing any inefficiencies or non-compliance issues identified during inspections.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree specializing in environmental science / management, or diploma specializing in environmental compliance management / technology / engineering.
  • 2+ years experience in construction and environment-related field.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of environmental management processes.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Systematic and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and as part of a larger team.
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to carry drawings and diaries as required.
  • Ability to use stairs, ladders and climb over rough terrain.
  • Primary work location is project site office within the Project limits along Hurontario Street.
  • Exposure to construction work site environment in all seasons.
  • Valid G driver’s license.
