Director, Clinical Information Systems Education, Clinical Informatics

What you’ll do

Lead the development and evaluation of the VPP clinical systems education strategies, including strategic planning, operational leadership, and development of educational programs.

Applies expertise in strategic development of appropriate services, policies, and procedures to ensure a comprehensive approach to the provision of clinical systems related education for all health professionals.

  • Lead Clinical systems related education services and collaborates with leaders and relevant partners to promote and ensure integrated, consistent, and standardized clinical systems related educational programming across all sites of the VPP organizations, including orientation and evidence-based practices.
  • Responsible for all personnel including hiring, termination, and performance management, in partnership with HR. Provides supervisory guidance and direction to team members utilizing effective management techniques (, coaching, mentoring, skill and leadership development, decision-making, and coalition building) that support the achievement of required outcomes.
  • Develop and monitor operating budgets and contributes to the overall budget within the context of operational demands and environmental and resource constraints and uses best utilization methods to thoroughly track, allocate and adhere to allocated budgets.

Responsible for achieving operational objectives within assigned resource limits.

Ensure all programming is learning centered, innovative, and creative, rooted in adult learning principles and theories;

includes various learning modalities and delivery models, development of curriculum, implementation, and sustainability plans.

Ensures quality learning environments for staff and students across VPP.

  • Create and strengthen learning partnerships with relevant educational institutions to influence clinical systems related education curricula and support student entry level requirements both at VPP level and provincially.
  • Maintain currency on related issues and trends in health care, leadership, digital health initiatives and education best practices to foresee the need for change and ongoing improvement by attending conferences, courses, and seminars, reading industry literature, and participating in professional associations as appropriate.
  • Provide overall leadership and direction to team members using effective Performance Excellence and Learner-Centered management techniques (, coaching, mentoring, skill and leadership development, performance management).

Ensure quality learning environments for staff and students across the health organizations. Foster, lead and role model a safe and healthy workplace for staff.

  • Anticipate future changes in practice, and recommend transition strategies that optimize the standardization, efficiency, appropriateness, sustainability, flexibility, consistency, and quality of clinical systems related education programs.
  • Establish effective relationships across the organization, professional associations, and others to create partnerships and positively influence professional and clinical learning opportunities for students and staff.
  • Lead, promote, and ensure integrated and consistent clinical educational programming across the VPP, in partnership with senior VPP leaders and vested parties.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What you bring

Qualifications

A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Nursing, Allied Health, Health Administration, Business or Public Administration.

Minimum of ten (10) years’ recent, related experience in progressively more complex and senior management / leadership roles that include developing, leading, and managing educational program(s), regional and complex projects and / or consultation processes in an educational, health care or academic setting with a wide range of partners within a large multi-unionized healthcare organization, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Previous experience in leading and executing CIS related education projects is preferred. Current registration with relevant professional College / Association as applicable.

  • Oversees the development, management, and evaluation of education program delivery in collaboration with internal and external relevant partners, considering service delivery needs, demands, and constraints within a complex environment.
  • Strong organizational skills : able to prioritize, plan, organize workloads, and manage client expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt readily to rapidly changing environment and respond with initiative.
  • Displays comprehensive knowledge of project management and facilitation principles and methodologies and ability to coach team members on these skills.
  • Uses sound business acumen to manage the fiscal resources of the assigned projects / services in a manner that is financially responsible and consistent with overall goals of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology successfully and innovatively within work practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents - including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan : A First Nations Case Study - and how they intersect across the health care system.
  • Models and supports full team commitment to Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety including oversight and commitment to education strategy.
  • Collaborates with peers to ensure Indigenous-specific Anti-racism and ICSH are applied holistically through department as whole.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).

Salary Range : $128,298 - $184,428 / year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.

Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
