Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic

The Department of Family Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, is inviting applications for three full-time clinical academic teaching positions within an innovative and exciting Department of Family Medicine.

Candidates must hold an MD, or equivalent, with certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada, including a Certificate of Added Competence (or equivalent) in Sport and Exercise Medicine, and be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario.

A relevant master’s degree or interest in pursuing a Master in Clinical Science (Family Medicine) or medical education is preferred.

Clinical practice experience is preferred with experience and interest in teaching being essential. The successful candidate will be a Clinician Teacher and hold a full-time Limited Term Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, or a Continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, depending upon qualifications and experience at the time of appointment.

Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience and will be composed primarily of the following sources : clinical income from the Ontario Health Insurance Plan, academic alternate funding, and / or other academic support.

The successful candidate will be expected to start on April 1, 2024, or as negotiated.

Our multidisciplinary team comprises dedicated professionals focused on delivering comprehensive and innovative care to optimize athlete / active individuals’ performance and recovery.

We are seeking passionate and experienced Sport and Exercise Medicine Physicians to join our esteemed team. The ideal candidates will provide specialized medical care to athletes and individuals with sports-related injuries or conditions.

The role also provides an opportunity to provide comprehensive primary care to the student health population at our Fanshawe College location.

This role involves collaborating with our interdisciplinary team of orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists, and others to develop treatment plans based on evidence-based care, promoting injury prevention, and contributing to ongoing research and education initiatives in the field of sport and exercise medicine.

Key Responsibilities include :

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based care for athletes and individuals with sports-related injuries or conditions at the Fowler Kennedy Clinic, including coverage of Western varsity games and events.
  • Provide clinical teaching and supervision to a variety of learners including PGY 1, 2, and 3 Family Medicine Residents, medical students, and other health discipline learners
  • Participate in scholarly and academic activities including research, quality improvement, and teaching and learning in non-clinical settings
  • Participate in the administrative aspects of the Fowler Kennedy Clinic and the Department of Family Medicine
