Municipal Planner
The City of Temiskaming Shores is seeking applications from those who have a passion for challenging the norm in land use planning, thrive and adapt to changing priorities and to be at the forefront of championing forward thinking land use policies for the City of Temiskaming Shores.
The Planner will guide the City’s growth and change through the Official Plan and work across the corporation and community to embark on new and improved ways to engage community and stakeholders in land use planning processes.
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, the Planner will be responsible for ensuring that development and planning is facilitated and promoted in an effective, equitable and efficient manner in accordance with the Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement, Growth Plan for Northern Ontario, Official Plan and Zoning By-laws.
As well as :
- Provide sound, reasoned land use planning opinions to the public through zoning inquiries and consultations on planning applications;
- Provide Council and staff with planning advice in order to ensure that development and growth in Temiskaming Shores occurs in an orderly, well-planned manner with good planning principles;
- Create policies and guidelines, in addition to, prepare and present Committee and Council reports;
- Conduct background research on major land-use issues and trends; and
- Provide evidence and representation at OMB hearings, courts and other tribunals
The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of and progressive experience in planning, project management, communications and economic development and is a self-starter with the ability to work independently within a multi-disciplinary environment.
An excellent working knowledge of government and legislative planning policies and regulations is required along with the ability to organize and manage short and long-term priorities to meet deadlines.
As a graduate with a University degree in Planning or a related field, you also have exemplary leadership, organizational, analytical, negotiation and public relations skills supported by at least three (3) years related experience.
