Salary Range

$85,563.25 - $97,633.20 annually which includes a 4 Grid Temporary Market Adjustment*, plus $61.60 bi-weekly isolation allowance for Bella Coola, plus $76.

Job Summary

An integral member of a multi-disciplinary Community Mental Health Team and in coordination with other community agencies and professionals, you provide a range of mental health services to children, youth and their families, when the child or youth is suffering from serious emotional, psychological, behavioral or psychiatric illness.

As a CYMH Clinician , you provide direct clinical services such as intake, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and crisis intervention for children, youth and their families.

Consulting with community agencies, schools, hospitals, and other ministry programs, you understand the importance of being involved in community education, development, coordination and prevention / early intervention programs.

You build and maintain relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders in the community to ensure that conflicts are resolved and appropriate outcomes are achieved.

Job Requirements :

  • Masters in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master's level in a similar subject may be considered.
  • NOTE : If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ).

You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

  • Minimum of one (1) year full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver's license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

Preference may be given to applicants with the following :

  • Two (2) years or more experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.

NOTE : Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.

If hired, a successful applicant would be under-implemented at the Social Program Officer 21 classification with an employee development plan in place until the qualifications for Social Program Officer (CYMH) 24 are fully met.

About this Position :

Two (2) positions available : One in Waglisa (Bella Bella) and one in Bella Coola

The positions are also posted as a Nurse 7C underREQ 114111 and an LP 5A under REQ 114108 .

The positions can work on a travelling schedule working two (2) weeks per month possibly in either Bella Coola, Waglisa (Bella Bella) in the office followed by two (2) weeks per month in your home location (home location is defined as your usual place of work).

The positions are on travel status two weeks a month while in Bella Coola or Waglisa (Bella Bella).

Flexible work options may be able to work up to one (1) day at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.

Depending on the successful candidate's location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO APPLICANTS

The Bella Coola or Waglisla locations are currently eligible for a retention incentive which is available to all regular permanent Social Program Officers residing in Hard To Recruit (HTR) designated communities across the province.

In addition to the re-imbursement of relocation costs (where applicable), the incentive program provides the following :

  • Up to a maximum of $6,000 annual lump sum payment to regular permanent full-time Social Program Officers in the SPO R18 to SPO R30 classifications* OR
  • Up to a maximum of $3,000 annual lump sum payment to regular permanent full-time Social Program Officers placed in the SPO Growth Series (SPO Growth to SPO R24 classifications)
  • Full payment of the incentive is based on regular eligible classifications (SPO R18 to SPO R30) working in an approved location for the full fiscal year (April 1 to March 31).

A pro-rated incentive payment may be provided to candidates who work a partial year and / or part-time hours.

With a population of 1,200, Waglisla (Bella Bella) is the largest community to be found on the Central Coast north of Queen Charlotte Strait and the Heiltsuk are strong stewards of these lands and waters.

Paddlers can enjoy the many small straits, exposed coastline, and islands accessible from the communities of Bella Bella and Denny Island (Shearwater), such as the Goose Group in the western reaches of the Hakai Provincial Recreation Area.

From fully exposed shorelines to rolling, forested hills and 1000-metre peaks, Hakai offers some of the most varied and scenic coastline in the province.

Special features such as lagoons and reversing tidal rapids, beaches, all-weather anchorages, and an intricate network of coves, inlets, and channels make it an ideal area for boaters, anglers, scuba divers, naturalists - and experienced sea kayakers.

Over 100 species of birds have been identified in the park, ravens and ospreys among them. Feeding flocks of gulls, auklets, murres, and murrelets are numerous in the waters of Kildidt and Queens Sounds.

Bella Coola sits in the Bella Coola valley and is a gateway to the Great Bear Rainforest, serving as a centre for more remote communities in the area.

Bella Coola is a beautiful valley community, surrounded by mountains, with limitless recreation opportunities including fishing, hiking, camping, and hunting.

Bella Coola is very connected with its First Nations heritage, and communities such as the Nuxalkmc people live within the town.
