Children & Youth Leader – Youth Programming

Overview
We are looking for creative, positive, and energetic leaders and role models to lead our nightly youth programs this summer.
Youth Leaders make summer evenings awesome for youth ages 12-17 by delivering indoor and outdoor sports, arts, crafts and games at community centres. Our Youth Drop-In programs run from 6 : 00 pm to 10 : 00 pm. If you are into skate culture, Youth Leaders with Doon Skatium will help deliver a variety of outdoor skatepark activities for children and youth ages 8-17.
Responsibilities
- Implements and delivers age‑appropriate and recreational activities for youth.
- Plans, leads and participates in youth activities. Modifies programs to accommodate abilities / needs of participants, weather conditions, etc.
- Supervises youth at all times.
- Ensures youth follow all program rules.
- Assists Inclusion Facilitators and private support workers to accommodate youth with special needs.
- Ensures the safety and enjoyment of participants through communication, monitoring, and enforcement of program and facility rules, and addresses unsafe and unacceptable behavior; refers to supervisor as appropriate. Reports all incidents / accidents and assists with program emergency procedures.
- Assists with the set‑up and take‑down of program equipment and supplies.
- Ensures safe use, condition, and storage of equipment. Reports any issues to supervisor immediately.
- Completes records and reports including attendance, accident / incident reports, etc.
- Responds to participants immediate concerns and / or needs.
- Opens and closes program area. May be required to open and close facility.
- Provides direction, monitors activities, and gives feedback to volunteers.
- Provides first aid as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education
Partial secondary school educationExperience
1 month of experience working or volunteering with youth ages 12-17.Experience working or volunteering with youth in a group setting (e.g. camp, guides / scouts, youth groups, coaching) OR have demonstrated leadership skills at school or work leading a team, a group or a project.Additional Requirements
Standard first Aid and CPR Level “C” CertificationVulnerable sectors check issued following the date of offer of employment18 years of age by first date of employmentAbility to work from 6 : 00 – 10 : 00 PM Monday – FridayKnowledge, Skills, And Abilities
