Job Description

The Manager, Financial Reporting (18 Month Limited Term) is responsible for producing accurate and timely financial reporting and ensuring proper internal controls are in place to safeguard the Company's assets and promote efficient and effective reporting for internal and external reporting.

The Manager, Financial Reporting is responsible for the preparation of the monthly consolidated and combined financial reporting for Seaspan ULC, by ensuring the timely and accurate completion of journal entries, consolidation, reporting, variance and account analyses, and complex account reconciliations.

Please note : This position is a 18 month limited term employment opportunity including extended health benefits and 4-weeks' vacation.

This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What you'll do

  • Oversees daily operations of the Corporate financial reporting department to achieve departmental obligations while ensuring the team's development.
  • Manages team's monthly close activities and accountable for the operating business closes.
  • Designs and maintains standard financial reports for operating businesses.
  • Reviews monthly working papers and variance analysis to ensure accurate and timeline monthly financial reporting;
  • Manages fixed asset ledger for the group of companies, including all associated reporting.
  • Manages monthly corporate service allocations to the operating businesses.
  • Manages the account reconciliation process and repository, conducts periodic reviews of peer working papers.
  • Manages quarterly consolidated and combined financial reporting for Seaspan ULC to our parent company, coordinating with the operating businesses to deliver quality and timely results.
  • Supports budget and forecast process across corporate services, adhering to various reporting deadlines.
  • Maintains knowledge of Canadian ASPE and related reporting requirements and manages changes and updates to internal accounting processes and practices accordingly.
  • Seeks continuous improvement for finance processes; runs process improvement workshops with stakeholders; makes recommendations for improvements;

implements recommendations and monitors to ensure compliance.

  • Responsible for defining data definitions to enable / enhance financial reporting consistency, including monitoring the GL structures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you'll bring

  • Undergraduate degree in Business or Finance.
  • Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years work experience in an accounting or finance, with at least 5 years in a Financial Reporting role. This includes experience in reporting, GL management, and report requirements identification.
  • 5 years' experience managing team members (project or staff).
  • Working knowledge on enterprise resource programs (ERP); preference given to those with experience using JD Edwards Enterprise One and SAP Business Objects Web Intelligence or similar applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and related financial reporting requirements.
  • Strong demonstrated knowledge of best practices in accounting, reporting, and financial services.
  • Strong demonstrated knowledge in ERP (JDE or equivalent) Business Systems.
  • Experience with data mining applications, preferably Business Intelligence.
  • Strong demonstrated knowledge of analytical techniques and financial concepts to define and solve complex problems;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and effective listening skills.
  • Proficient in MS-Office (Excel / Word / Outlook / PowerPoint / Visio)
  • Customer service orientation, self-starter and initiative driven.
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills.

The estimated salary for this position is $120,000 - $148,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity.

The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
