Job Description
Reporting to the Chief Steward and the Executive Chef, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following :
- Replace the Chief Steward when they are not present, including attending meetings
- Supervise all Head Stewards and Stewarding staff
- Conduct performance management, training, scheduling and assign daily duties as well as long term projects
- Ensure the highest quality of cleanliness and organization in all food service areas as well as with service equipment
- Monitor and control daily operations of the Stewarding department
- Monitor all equipment in the Stewarding department, ensuring that QA logs are completed
- Full knowledge of the Collective Agreement and Labour Regulations
- Administer coaching, counseling and corrective action when necessary
- Work with outside contractors regarding maintenance and repairs
- Track and maintain inventory of glass, china, silverware for the Food & Beverage department
- Process requests from kitchen, banquets, outlets and Food & Beverage office
- Ensure a safe working environment in accordance with legislation
- Understand the hotel recycling program, policies and procedures and actively participate and encourage all staff to follow through.
- Track and input EHC, Gaia and EES data.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 3 years’ leadership experience in food and beverage related work, particularly stewarding
- Must have a thorough understanding of employee relations, labor laws, and how they apply in a unionized environment
- Results oriented, highly motivated and able to work under pressure
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Commitment to and full understanding of health and safety practices
- Valid WHMIS certification
- Mechanical / Equipment maintenance knowledge an asset
- Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook
- Familiar with environmental programs
- English proficiency
Additional Information
Physical Aspects of Position (included but not limited to) :
- Constant standing and walking throughout shift
- Frequent lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs
- Occasional kneeling, pushing and pulling
- Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
- Working in humid and hot environments
