Reporting to the Utility Engineering Team Lead, the Utility Engineer will be a key member of the engineering team.
What You'll Do Here :
- Prepare conceptual and detailed engineering designs for assigned Hydro and / or Telecommunication projects.
- Provide feedback and guidance to the Project Designers to ensure accurate delivery that will meet utility standards, industry standards and meet good engineering practices, policies, and procedures.
- Work closely with the Project Manager to ensure designs are completed on time.
- Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for employees, sub contractors, and consultants in compliance with the projects Environmental Health and Safety Program
- Mentoring and training junior engineers and designers
- Maintain good working relationships with internal groups that support projects such as other engineering disciplines, drafting, procurement, construction, project management, etc.
- Perform QA / QC of engineering design packages to ensure they are in compliance with standards and stamp accordingly once acceptable.
- Ensuring the latest safe practices and methods are integrated into the design.
- Travel to site and liaise with customers, contractors, municipal authorities, and client representatives.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Complete specification compliance and constructability design reviews of engineering subcontractor's work.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
What You Bring to the Team :
- A degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution
- Professional Engineer designation with Professional Engineers Ontario or equivalent (in good standing)
- Minimum 3 years of experience reviewing and stamping P. ENG drawings.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working on projects relating to Hydro or Telecommunication works.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
- Demonstrated ability for developing design calculations, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Experience with Quick Pole, SPIDA Calc or PLS CAD is considered an asset.
- Good knowledge of North American codes and standards such as CSA, NEC, CEC, IEEE, or NERC,
- Must be familiar with Hydro Make Ready packages and conducting Pole Line Analysis.
- Experience in AutoCAD and / or Bentley MicroStation is an asset.
- Experience with Hydro One and Toronto Hydro specifications and standards is an asset.
- Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Must be able to work under pressure and have a sense of urgency.
