Technical Sales Engineer – Toronto
We are currently looking for a Technical Sales Engineer to join our Toronto team to help assess customer and market requirements in support of sales and business development activities, review performance, and overall systems requirements, etc. The engineer will assist in preparing detailed proposals for potential and existing accounts / customers.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Support activities necessary for conceptual development, preparation of cost models, and writing detailed technical proposals for wire harness processing automation equipment and projects.
- Regularly communicate with stakeholders in China (occasionally working night hours between 20 : 00-23 : 00 EST) and North American clients on quotation status and assess current or future opportunities and priorities.
- Participate in customer RFQ review meetings.
- Prepare equipment conceptual introduction documents and cost estimation sheets for the various RFQs.
- Liaise between mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and assembly manufacturing groups for technical assistance in developing concepts and processes, and provide assistance in estimating labor and material costs to meet customer requirements.
- Liaise with suppliers to obtain estimates of major material and equipment costs required for the preparation of budgets and proposals.
- Participate in the elaboration of the list and schedule of technical deliverables for the complete project as well as the corresponding list of interfaces.
- Provide technical follow‑up during engineering, procurement & construction.
- Identify technical risks and their impact on the project, and mitigate their effects.
- Work with internal and external design and technology functions to create unique specifications and applications.
- Work to specific project budgets and timelines provided by supervisor.
- Prepare draft budget and quotation proposals for review with Account Managers.
- Attend escalation and address red flags as directed by supervisor.
- Recognize problems, initiate action, assist in problem solving, and evaluate results.
- Assist with conflict resolution at early stages.
- Participate in customer design review meetings.
- Complete other duties and projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Education & Experience Required
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Engineering preferred) and / or business management, sales, marketing, or related field.Prior experience in capital equipment sales preferred; experience with wire processing industry is preferred.Good knowledge of wire harness technology.Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and night hours.Self‑starter, capable of taking initiative to identify and resolve problems.Ability to work well independently and in a team setting.Strong attention to detail.Experience with industrial automation, including general knowledge of control systems, PLCs, and software.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both in English and Chinese.Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical controls and integration of equipment.Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and design tools such as 2D and 3D software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks).Recommend and consistently administer policies and procedures to enhance department operations and support continuous improvement.Must speak Chinese (Mandarin).Travel
Expectation of travel up to 30% of time, which may increase in exceptional circumstances to meet project needs. Must have US VISA or Canadian Passport.
