Job Description

Be the Spark that ignites the potential in people! At our YMCA, we believe in the power of people. Every day, our dedicated employees and volunteers bring energy, positivity, and inclusivity to everything they do. They are the spark that ignites potential in others—helping individuals grow, thrive, and truly belong.

When people feel connected and supported, communities become stronger, more resilient, and full of life. That’s the impact of people-powered change. Together, we create welcoming spaces where everyone is valued, differences are celebrated, and possibilities are endless. Be the spark. Shine bright. Help others shine too.

About the Role :

Step into a leadership role this summer as a Day Camp Coordinator, supporting engaging day camp programs and helping children and youth thrive in a fun, safe, and inclusive setting. You’ll lead staff, support daily operations, and ensure programs run smoothly and safely.

This hands-on, fast-paced role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, problem-solving on the fly, and making a meaningful difference in their community.

This is a contract position from May 19, 2026 to August 21, 2026.

This position requires flexible availability between 7 : 30am and 5 : 30pm Monday to Friday. Specific hours of work will vary based on program needs.

Responsibilities :

  • Lead and support a team of counsellors and volunteers, providing guidance, mentorship, and encouragement throughout the camp day.
  • Plan, coordinate, and support fun, safe, and inclusive day camp programs for children and youth of various ages. Various activities include sports, science, art, and esports.
  • Organize daily camp operations, including schedules, activity rotations, and program logistics.
  • Uphold and model YMCA values, encouraging inclusion, diversity, and respect in every interaction. Foster a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where campers can grow in spirit, mind, and body.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, parents, and leadership to ensure smooth operations and clear expectations.
  • Develop digital skills in the workplace – such as understanding proper etiquette on various communication channels with supervisors and coworkers via email and teams.
  • Support and mentor counsellors in delivering high-quality programming, promoting professional development and skill-building – soft skills and digital skills in the workplace.
  • Track attendance, maintain records, and contribute to program evaluations to support continuous improvement. Monitor and ensure adherence to YMCA Health, Safety, and Child Protection policies, responding to incidents or concerns as needed.

Qualifications :

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma required; post-secondary education in administration, recreation, education, or a related field is an asset.
  • Able to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Intermediate (Standard) First Aid & CPR-C certification or willing to obtain.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a passion for building relationships.
  • Lead, motivate, and support a diverse team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Eager to learn and open to receiving feedback on soft skills and digital presence in the workplace.
  • Experience working with children and youth in camp, recreation, or educational settings is an asset.
  • Canada Summer Jobs Grant Participant Eligibility :

  • No older than 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the  Immigration and Refugee Protection Act  for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Work Environment & Physical Demands :

This role is active and hands-on, with time spent both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. You may be asked to be mobile and stationary for extended periods, lift children, equipment, or supplies, and participate in activities with campers. The role also requires handling challenging situations and complaints with confidence, professionalism, and a positive attitude. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
