Engineers and Geoscientists BC is currently searching for a Policy Analyst to join our team in Burnaby on a 10-month contract until July 2025!

The Policy Analyst reports to the Legal Counsel, Policy Manager ("LCPM") and assists the LCPM in developing and / or revising bylaws, policies, and procedures within the Legislation, Ethics, and Compliance Department;

guiding implementation; and administering the lifecycle of bylaws and policies with regular review to ensure accuracy and currency of policies and procedures.

In particular, the Policy Analyst supports the development and process of bylaw amendments through review of legislation and research, drafts memoranda, works on numerous unique departmental projects, collaborates across departments on policy issues and other projects, tracks and administers bylaw and policy changes through the approval process, and uses their writing, analytical and research skills to produce high-quality work to broadly advance the requirements of the department and organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE :

  • Assists the LCPM with bylaw and policy projects and provides analysis of the impacts of existing or new legislation, policies, and processes.
  • Facilitates consultation with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conducts research and analysis of bylaws and policies. Conducts environmental scans of best practices employed by other similar professions and jurisdictions.
  • Develops proposals, scenarios and recommendations on bylaw and policy initiatives.
  • Writes training, guidance, and assessment documents pertaining to bylaw policy and procedures for publication.
  • Works collaboratively with others in the organization and performs other duties as assigned by management.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR :

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Public Policy, Political Science, or a related field is required.
  • Training in Administrative Law, Public Administration, or Privacy legislation is an asset.
  • 2-5 years of relevant previous experience working as a policy analyst.
  • Familiarity with legal documents and memoranda is an asset.
  • Experience in policy development, evaluation frameworks and methodologies, and proven ability to take initiative and to follow through in planning and conducting analysis and implementation of policies.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external networks of key influencers.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and / or confidential situations, documents and information.

This role offers a competitive compensation and benefits program including a salary of $75,000-$83,500 annually (pro-rated based on the length of contract).

For contract employees on a short-term contract, we also offer :

  • 8% additional pay in lieu of benefits.
  • 10 vacation days per annum (pro-rated based on the length of contract).
  • A flex day program offering additional paid days off (usually alternating Fridays) as a result of a compressed work week.
  • A hybrid work model with an assigned schedule confirming days worked remotely and days worked in-office. This role will be required to work in-office a minimum of 2 days per week during regular business operations.
  • The required tools, equipment, and technology for employees to work remotely are provided.

Free parking is available at the office. Transit reimbursement is offered to employees who take transit to work; we are centrally located near bus and Skytrain stops.
