Application Developer

The Opportunity

The Application Developer is accountable to the Leader, IT Development and Technical Product Development Lead, for the development / configuration of the organization’s computer applications based upon documented specifications and for the day-to-day resolution of production support issues having an immediate impact on business operations.

Status : Regular Full-Time, Union Number of Positions : 1

Pay Grade : 15 ($41.56 to $48.12 per hour, 40 hours per week) Location : Open to any of our BC regional offices (hybrid work environment) Reports to : Leader, IT Development

As an Application Developer, you will :

• Determine the application changes required or functionality needed to be developed, by analysing the change requests or work assignments received directly or developed through active participation in analysis and design sessions.
• Provide estimates on the scope of work required to develop new or modified functionality, to be used in the costing of the project or work activity.
• Develop new application functionality, reports or changes through application configuration or programming.
• Provide fully tested, new functionality, reports or changes by following best practices for application development and quality assurance.
• Recommend and implement application performance improvements by analysing previously identified problem areas.
• Provide production support to users by analysing the immediate issue and providing an application solution or alternative method of correcting, working around the problem.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience you have :

• The required knowledge and skills for the position would be acquired through a degree in computer science and 3-5 years of technical experience in the IT industry involving hands-on support of third-party applications or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to see the problem, issue or request in the larger context of the business to ensure that solutions are not restrictive.
• Knowledge of testing principles to ensure testing is comprehensive.
• Current (and ongoing) knowledge of emerging technologies.
• Knowledge of systems development life cycle to be able to provide input during each of the phases.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Experience with the agile methodology for software development.
• Experience in application development and application development languages.
• Experience with Energov is an asset.
• Experience with MS D365 is an asset.
• Knowledge of business analysis tools and techniques.
• Experience with database applications and sql.
• Experience in report programming.
