The Manager, Automation Engineering provides leadership, engineering oversight, and direction to members of the Automation Engineering Team in implementing discipline specific industry best practices across the ENMAX Generation Fleet.
This critical leader will ensure the team is staffed, trained and equipped to support troubleshooting, routine and major maintenance planning, and on-going operational technical support that ensures compliance with OEM direction, applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
This role also serves as the CIP (Critical Infrastructure Protection) Senior Manager, ensuring the successful implementation of the AESO CIP Standards within the Fleet.
Major Responsibilities :
Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders in developing and implementing the standards, processes and procedures necessary to ensure that Automation activities conducted across the ENMAX Generation Fleet are planned, executed and documented in efficient and effective manner.
Additionally, the incumbent will work closely with the Manager, Maintenance Engineering in coordinating resources during planned maintenance outage activities.
Provide leadership and technical direction to establish the team as the in-house centre of excellence for world-class practices while simultaneously reducing Fleet reliance on contract personnel expertise.
Resource manager for discipline related Management of Change (MOC) submissions. Provides oversight and guidance throughout the MOC process including Prioritization, preparation and submission of Authority for Expenditures and Engineering Change Request work orders.
Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure maximum value is derived from all MOC’s. Ensures MOC’s are reviewed, routed, approved and completed in a timely manner.
Reviews discipline related RCFA’s and ensures associated lessons learned are incorporated throughout the Fleet with the goal of preventing reoccurrence.
Recommends to the Director of Engineering Key Performance Indicators that will ensure that team activities are contributing to the annual corporate goals.
Tracks and reports on team performance on an ongoing basis.
Provide coaching, technical guidance and professional development to members of the team.
Lead the CIP program for ENMAX Energy. Program ensures compliance with AESO standards regarding preparedness and response to cyber incidents for critical infrastructure.
Education :
Engineering degree required
Must be registered, or qualified to immediately register, with APEGA as a Professional Engineer within the province of Alberta.
Qualifications :
Ten or more years of experience in the power generation industry.
Five or more years of proven people leadership experience. Evidence of success in coaching and mentoring teams is critical.
Demonstrated experience in operating and maintaining a variety of control systems.
Experience managing the operation and / or maintenance of an industrial facility with knowledge of plant and field operations, maintenance and contingency requirements.
Proven experience as a Project Manager on technical projects, including the ability to write and clearly present technical and non-technical information to a variety of audiences.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with NERC CIP Standards and their implementation within Alberta would be an asset.
Thorough understanding of generation equipment including design principles and operational requirements would be an asset.

Location : This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB) .
You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
