Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Program Supports, the Therapeutic Recreation Assistant supports the development, delivery, and evaluation of group and individual recreation programs that meet the physical, emotional, mental, and social needs of residents.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individual and group recreation programs that meet residents’ needs and interests.
- Collaborate with the care team to assess residents’ strengths, abilities, and needs.
- Instruct and support residents through various programs, adapting programming for residents with disabilities or impairments.
- Maintain accurate records of residents’ attendance and participation.
- Communicate and promote recreation programming to residents, team members, families, volunteers, and the community to encourage participation.
- Observe and communicate changes in residents’ condition or behavior to the care team.
- Provide guidance to volunteers and students.
- Provide support to other departments as needed.
- Work in current standards of the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and all relevant by‑laws, legislation, acts and regulations.
Qualifications
Post‑secondary diploma in Recreation and Leisure, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology.Previous experience providing recreation programming to seniors with physical and cognitive impairments or limitations.Eligible for registration or a member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario is preferred.Experience with geriatrics, cognitive support, palliative care, and rehabilitation; advanced understanding of dementia and “Responsive Behaviours”.Minimum of 1‑year experience working in a Long‑Term Care facility is preferred.Strong interpersonal skills and ability to facilitate group programming.Demonstrated report writing and documentation skills.Knowledge of Microsoft Office.Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past 6 months.Commitment to core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork, and Joy.Commitment to Lakeridge Health’s safety programs and regular in‑services.Conditions of Employment
