Job description

Accounting Analyst

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Accounting Analyst with an understanding of accounting, period-end close, banking operations, and reconciliations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions, assisting in period-end close, maintaining banking relationships, and performing daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations across multiple accounts and systems.

The Accounting Analyst is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records by meticulously comparing and analyzing bank statements with internal records and performing thoughtful analysis of period-end journal entries. This role involves identifying discrepancies, investigating and resolving variances, and ensuring timely and accurate reconciliation of accounts. The analyst plays a critical role in maintaining financial accuracy and compliance, aiding in the preparation of financial reports, and collaborating with various departments to ensure seamless financial operations.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, including the preparation of accounting schedules, journal entries, accruals, and account analysis.
  • Review and reconcile bank statements with internal financial records.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Perform and oversee daily bank reconciliations for multiple accounts to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve outstanding items in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with banks regarding discrepancies or account issues.
  • Utilize accounting software for reconciliation processes.
  • Prepare and analyze balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Assist in internal and external audits related to bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure all accounts are reconciled in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciling items promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of all reconciliations and adjustments.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Provide support to team members on reconciliation tasks.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide support to other departments regarding bank transactions and reconciliations.
  • Support automation initiatives to enhance accuracy and improve timeliness.
  • Complete ad-hoc financial analyses and participate in special projects as required.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance
  • 2+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or analytical roles, preferably in a multi-entity environment
  • Experience with SAGE software is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in accounting, financial reporting and data analysis.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Ability to work in a team environment with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and controls
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • Proactive, self-motivated, adaptable, and able to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
