Job Description

As a Media Sales Representative / Account Executive, you will be responsible for selling digital advertising solutions for a B2B online news publisher, focused on long-term, relationship-based advertising partnerships. This role blends outbound prospecting, written and virtual selling, discovery-based meetings, and account renewals, with additional involvement in supporting the rollout of a newly launched self-serve advertising platform (Shop Squall).

You will work with marketing directors, senior executives, and marketing teams at national and regional organizations, primarily across the Greater Toronto Area, selling advertising programs across both established flagship publications and newly launching verticals. This is a dynamic role within a small, innovative, and technology-forward organization, offering strong long-term earning potential and career stability for someone who understands the advertising sales cycle.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • $70,000 – $80,000 Base Salary
  • Commission (renewals + new business)
  • First-year OTE: $110,000 – $120,000

OFFICE LOCATION & SALES TERRITORY

  • Work-from-home / Outside Sales role
  • Based in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)
  • Territory includes national accounts, with the majority of customers located in the GTA and Eastern Canada
  • Ability to attend industry events and networking functions in the GTA is required
  • Some clients in Quebec and Western Canada
  • Travel is primarily local, with minimal out-of-province travel initially

SALES CYCLE & PRODUCT VALUE

  • Advertising sales follow a seasonal cycle, with the majority of revenue closing between September and February
  • March through August is heavily focused on prospecting, relationship-building, and pipeline development
  • New business sales cycles typically range from 9–12 months
  • Renewal contracts are usually annual or quarterly and often close quickly
  • Role includes a mix of renewals, upsells, and new advertising programs
  • Approximate time split:
    • 70% established publications and renewals
    • 30% new publications and growth initiatives

TYPICAL DAY & DUTIES

  • Sell digital advertising programs across flagship and newly launched publications
  • Manage and renew existing advertiser relationships
  • Prospect and build relationships with new advertisers via email, CRM, and direct outreach
  • Conduct discovery calls and virtual meetings with senior marketing stakeholders
  • Communicate professionally and persuasively in written sales correspondence, which is a critical success factor
  • Support and help refine the rollout of the Shop Squall self-serve advertising platform
  • Attend industry events and networking functions to build relationships and generate opportunities
  • Collaborate closely with internal marketing and editorial teams
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and manage a large contact database (6,000+ contacts)
  • Adapt sales approach across multiple industries and publications

OVERNIGHT TRAVEL

  • Occasional overnight travel for industry events or key client meetings
  • Initially limited and primarily within Ontario
  • Travel expectations may increase gradually as the sales program expands

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND

  • 5+ years of B2B sales experience
  • Experience selling digital advertising, media, or marketing-related services
  • Strong written communication and email-based selling skills
  • Experience managing long sales cycles and relationship-based accounts
  • Comfortable working in a small, entrepreneurial organization
  • Technically curious and comfortable supporting evolving digital tools
  • Active and professional LinkedIn presence strongly preferred

EDUCATION

  • Post-secondary education preferred

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • CRM systems (Copper experience is an asset)
  • Digital sales and advertising tools
  • Virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret campaign performance and customer metrics
