Highlights of the job
We are hiring a full time temporary Power Electrician 1 position for up to 11 months in Edmonton, AB.
A Power Electrician 1 works with a variety of equipment such as protective relays, breakers, disconnects, switchgear, transformers and other related substation equipment to ensure proper operation.
As the Power Electrician 1, you will work alongside the Transmission Operations Protection / SCADA or Apparatus team and report directly to the Operations Manager.
What you’d be responsible for
- Maintaining tools and equipment.
- Compiling reports.
- Keeping accurate records.
- Reading schematics and diagrams.
- Performing operational checks and acceptance tests.
- Conducting substation switching.
- Installing, commissioning and calibrating protective relays.
- Maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing high voltage apparatus.
- Assisting with other substation related duties as required.
What’s required to be successful
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
- Journeyman Power Systems Electrician certificate
- 3+ years of recent power substations related experience as a certified journeyman Power System Electrician
- Protection & Control experience is an asset
- Knowledge and experience working with medium and high voltage substation equipment
- Willing and able to work with energized high voltage equipment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Teams, Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License with 6 or fewer demerits and the ability to qualify for and maintain a valid EPCOR driver's permit
- Clearance on background check requirements related to ARS CIP
Additionally, you have the ability to handle new or emergency situations in a logical and reasoned manner. You are a team player who is professional, detail oriented, has highly developed judgment and possesses problem-solving skills.

As such, you possess a high level of safety awareness and demonstrate safe work practices at all times. Candidates will be required to participate in safety and other job-related training.
