Our client, one of Canada’s Top 5 Insurance Defense Law Boutiques, is seeking a Financial Controller, who will plan an integral role in the firm, while managing all accounting and financial operations.
The Financial Controller, will be expected to prepare and consolidate financial statements, establish, and maintain internal controls, conduct monthly, quarterly, and year-end analysis and reporting, among other duties.
The Financial Controller will report into the COO. There are 5 direct reports for this role. Hybrid working arrangement.
Role Snapshot :
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Prepare partnership and management company financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with the Law Society of Upper Canada's requirements.
- Liaise with outside accounting firm, Law Society of Upper Canada’s auditors.
- Manage the Firm’s financial and budgetary planning processes.
- Recommend and direct implementation of improvements and enhancements to existing financial practices and policies.
- Prepare HST and Law Society of Ontario Transaction Levy reports.
- Payroll and Group Insurance Administration.

You can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. You have exceptional presentation skills. You can develop and maintain strong working relations with partners, associates, accounting staff, office management, and administrative personnel.
You have proven ability to develop and convey comprehensive financial information and analysis related to business operations and strategy.
Your Key Qualifications :
- CPA in good standing.
- Undergraduate Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 10+ years of experience working in a Controller capacity or equivalent. Law firm experience is preferred.
- Solid working knowledge of diverse financial reporting, planning and analysis applications.
- Extensive experience with trust transactions and interest-bearing accounts.
- Exposure to SAP or any ERP system required.
