About the work environment :
Peoples Group offers a flexible and hybrid work environment. In this role you will work a combination of in-office and remotely from home.
Typically, you'll be working regular business hours, Monday to Friday between 8 : 00am and 4 : 30pm with flexibility around start / end times.
We are hiring for this position out of our Toronto office. Successful candidates who apply outside of these areas will be expected to relocate and reside in a location that is within a commutable distance.
About you :
You are a skilled and experienced Mortgage Underwriter with a track record in underwriting loan files and preparing credit submissions.
You are able to work under tight deadlines and maintain composure under pressure. You are highly motivated, proactive and team-oriented with a commitment to excellence and professionalism.
You have developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with Business Development Managers / Mortgage Brokers.
About the qualifications :
- At least 2 years of experience in a Mortgage Underwriter capacity and or comparable experience in a similar role.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field.
- Understanding of the mortgage industry and lifecycle.
- Understanding of credit and underwriting practices, and lending products.
- Understanding of the financial services industry, its independent distribution channels, and the regulatory environment.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and maintain composure under pressure.
- Strong computer skills, including MS Office and lending operating systems.
About the day-to-day :
- Investigate and evaluate mortgage and loan applications, ensuring compliances with organizational processes, aligning with senior management as needed.
- Coordinate and analyze credit applications and ensure consistent, objective, and sound credit decisions are made.
- Liaise with the default insurers and appraisal service providers to ensure collateral security is acceptable and meets the guidelines of People Group.
- Build rapport with internal and external stakeholders and maintain working relationships with assigned external client groups (Mortgage Brokers / Business Development Managers).
- Verify data and information on mortgage applications with third parties.
- Resolve any escalated credit issues, reply to internal and external client queries, and communicate credit decisions and recognizes when issues require escalations.
- Recommend changes to credit policy based on tendencies identified in the underwriting of loan files.
Compensation :
Peoples Group is pleased to offer employees a competitive annual salary plus a discretionary profit share opportunity. Salary for this position will vary between $63,000 and $68,000 per year depending on the knowledge, skills, abilities and experience that the chosen candidate possess.
