Role Description

As the Automation Architect at Sami Agtech, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining cutting-edge hardware solutions.

Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, you will drive the creation of a robust and scalable hardware architecture that powers our robotic harvesting system.

Responsibilities

  • Electrical Systems : Proficiency in working with high and low-voltage electrical systems; Design electrical panels; Understand vehicle electrical systems (battery management, power distribution) for mobile robotic platforms.
  • Communication and Networking : Familiarity with communication protocols for sensor data transmission; Ensure seamless communication between hardware components and control systems.
  • Hardware Design and Integration : Develop hardware components (such as sensors, actuators, and control boards) that can withstand harsh outdoor conditions, including extreme temperatures, humidity, and dust;

Integrate sensors (e.g., cameras, IMUs, proximity sensors, INS-RTK) and actuators (e.g., robotic arms, grippers) seamlessly into the robotic harvester system.

  • Sensor Selection and Calibration : Define specifications for sensors based on crop requirements; Calibrate sensors for accurate data collection during harvesting operations.
  • Actuator Strategy : Specify and implement actuators for precision and durability; Address wear and tear of actuators in outdoor environments.
  • Safety Considerations : Implement safety protocols to prevent accidents during operation; Design hardware to minimize environmental impact (e.

g., avoiding soil contamination); Ensure that all hardware components meet food safety and hygiene standards.

Field Testing and Troubleshooting : Participate in rigorous field testing to validate hardware performance under real-world conditions;

Quickly diagnose and resolve hardware issues during testing and deployment.

Collaboration and Documentation : Work closely with software developers, mechanical designers, and technicians; Document hardware designs, specifications, and troubleshooting procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Automation, or Robotics Engineering , or a related technical field. Advanced degree ( Master’s ) can be advantageous.
  • Proven track record (3+ years) in hardware development in a startup-style environment , including substantial experience in hardware architecture design and system integration for complex projects.
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing electrical systems, including high and low-voltage wiring .
  • Experience with multiple brands of industrial PCs and PLCs .
  • Experience with sensors and calibration techniques .
  • Knowledge of actuators and their application in automation.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols for seamless data exchange.
  • Understanding of programming languages ( Python, C++, Structured Text, Ladder Diagram ) for hardware control.
  • Strong problem-solving acumen and a proactive attitude towards tackling challenges in a dynamic and innovative environment.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and convey intricate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Assets

  • Knowledge of Industry 4.0, IoT, and SCADA software such as Ignition would be a plus.
  • Agricultural equipment experience.
  • Knowledge of standards for vehicles with electricity.
  • Experience with generators, air pressure systems, and hydraulic systems.
