NerveX builds devices and software that connect patients, healthcare providers, and AI. We turn real-world clinical signals into better decisions and faster workflows.
We’re transforming healthcare starting with our NXVET® technology in veterinary medicine, while building a platform that extends to human healthcare applications. Our foundations are built on 9 years of research at the University of Toronto , with patents and publications behind our AI-driven device technology.
We are proud alumni of UTEST and the Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) . NerveX has been recognized with awards including the Connaught Innovation Award and the RBC Prize for Innovation and Entrepreneurship . After demonstrating efficacy in pilot clinics, we’re now scaling deployments and product iterations.
By joining us, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a transformative phase in veterinary medicine and help shape the future of healthcare through AI-driven device technology.
Job Description :
We’re looking for a hands‑on Embedded Systems Engineer who can contribute across the embedded stack, from firmware development to hardware design and PCB iteration to manual prototype assembly and bring‑up . You don’t need to be an expert in everything on day one, but you must be the kind of person who learns fast, debugs relentlessly, and takes pride in shipping working systems.
A core expectation : you’re proficient at augmenting your work with AI copilots (e.g., Cursor , Claude Code , and similar tools). We want someone who uses these tools to move faster without compromising quality, safety, or clarity.
We’re open to different seniority levels; scope and compensation scale with experience.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, and debug embedded firmware in C / C++ (plus scripting / test automation in Python ).
- Work with common embedded protocols and peripherals ( SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO, ADC , etc.).
- Support RF‑enabled embedded systems (e.g., BLE , Wi‑Fi, or other ISM radios), including performance debugging.
- Read schematics, datasheets, and hardware interfaces confidently; collaborate tightly across HW / SW boundaries.
- Contribute to schematic capture and PCB layout (Altium preferred; KiCad / other acceptable).
- Perform prototype assembly , rework, cable / connector work, and bench bring‑up; document build / test procedures.
- Debug systems using lab tools ( oscilloscope, logic analyzer, power supply, DMM ); root‑cause issues methodically.
- Apply best practices for power , reliability , and manufacturability as prototypes evolve toward production.
- Maintain clear documentation (design notes, test plans, bring‑up checklists, known‑issues logs).
- Use AI copilots effectively for code, schematics review, test generation, and documentation—while validating outputs and keeping a high engineering bar.
Qualifications
Degree in Electrical / Computer Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).Practical experience with embedded systems and firmware development ( C / C++ ); comfort with Python for tooling.Strong debugging instincts : you can isolate failure modes and communicate what you tried and what you learned.Comfortable reading schematics / datasheets and working with mixed HW / SW systems.Growth mindset : you learn quickly, accept feedback, and take ownership.AI tool fluency : you actively use tools like Cursor / Claude Code (or similar) to accelerate development responsibly. In addition to the required skills, we would love to see experience in the following areas, though these are not mandatory :
PCB design / layout experience (Altium, KiCad, etc.) and DFM / DFT awareness.RF / BLE tuning and debugging experience (range / RSSI, antenna constraints, interference).Power electronics / battery‑powered device experience (charging, PMICs, low‑power states).Medical / veterinary device experience, regulated documentation habits, or quality systems exposure.Manufacturing transition experience (test jigs, assembly steps, component sourcing, revision control).Candidates who may not have all of the preferred experiences are still encouraged to apply if they bring other relevant strengths.Education :
Electronic Engineering / Computer Engineering / Computer Science related post secondary degree, diploma or equivalent real world experience. What We Offer :
Competitive salary and equity opportunitiesHigh‑ownership role building real devices that impact patient care.A modern, fully‑equipped facility designed for rapid iteration.A small, fast team where your work ships and your decisions matter.Hybrid flexibility while maintaining strong on‑site collaboration for hardware work.If you are excited by the prospect of shaping the future of healthcare technology and enjoy working in a fast‑paced, innovative environment, we would love to hear from you.
NerveX is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating an inclusive and diverse workplace for all team members.
