Responsibilities :
- Negotiate rail contracts.
- Negotiate freight rates and warehousing rates with partner carriers and warehouses.
- Develop new carriers for Kapuskasing and distribution sites.
- Strategize and oversee implementation of logistic goals for Kap Paper Inc.
- Review carrier performance levels and reports and implement required corrective action plans to remedy any service failure shortfalls of pre-set service agreements.
- Intervene when required to ensure carriers meet customer delivery requirements when necessary and possible.
- Establishing of rate guides (by destination) from the RFQ results for Kapuskasing and distribution sites.
- Development of procedures for smooth and efficient logistics operations of partner carriers at Kapuskasing and distribution sites.
- Negotiate shunting arrangements for Kapuskasing yearly.
- Maintain and update rate guides with minimum 5 carrier selection per destination for Kapuskasing and distribution sites.
- Negotiate over the road freight costs to new potential markets for sales and implement same as required.
- Verify and assist in maintaining carrier equipment at Kapuskasing.
- Ensure that tenders are responded to in accordance with capacity commitments.
- Intervene to ensure that capacity is secured for weekly truck load requirements.
- Verify weekly truck requirements based on production forecasts vs tenders.
- Ensure we maintain minimum truck volumes based on production forecasts, weekly based on reports.
- Ensure that carriers maintain weekly switching schedules.
- Intervene with carriers re : customer delivery schedules when required.
- Resolve customer operational logistics issues for customers (delivery issues, customer issues, unloading issues, delivery apt time, scheduling issues)
- Deal with any carrier claims and follow-up.
- Help reduce missed deliveries to customers.
- Ability to prepare freight claims for damage, loss or over payment of invoices and provide responses and follow-up on customer complaints relating to traffic issues Corporate Logistics.
- Ensures the supply of adequate truck equipment to cover shipments of finished product, when regular truck carriers are unable to supply equipment, the most economical alternative must be implemented.
- Communicates any potential loading delays to assigned carrier and customer service representative, bills out load upon completion.
- Prepares customs documents for import of cores and coordinates carrier backhaul.
- Expedites railcar loading for on time shipping with Finishing Room Supervisor and bills out cars within Elixir system.
- Ensure that tenders are responded to in accordance with capacity commitments.
- Ensure mill maintains minimum truck volumes based on production forecasts.
Requirements :
- Post-secondary education in a related field.
- Minimum 5+ years previous Logistics / Supply Chain Management experience.
- Professional Certification in Logistics or Supply Chain Management Required.
- Excellent interpersonal communication / negotiation skills.
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
