Health and Wellness Coordinator
Job Summary :
The Health and Wellness Coordinator is focused on overseeing camp wellness through administering medication and providing first aid support.
They will ensuring that campers, staff, and site visitors are following best practices for health and well-being. When they are not performing these duties, they support the wider camp program with the program team.
On site living is required.
Term : Full-time 10 weeks : June 24 to August 30, 2024.
Job Responsibilities :
- Follow all health and wellness procedures and standards of Cave Springs Camp and Niagara Public Health.
- Monitor and review health and wellness policies and recommend updates, as appropriate.
- Be familiar and aware of the health needs of campers and staff on site.
- Maintain a well-stocked, orderly, and organized Wellness Centre.
- Ensure that supplies and medications are stored in accordance with camp policies.
- Proactively monitor and assess the health and wellness of campers and staff.
- Conduct wellness visits and assessments, as needed.
- Administer first aid, as appropriate.
- Tell the Camp Director when an assessment by a physician is needed.
- Keep thorough and timely records of Wellness Centre visits, evaluations, and actions taken.
- Conducts follow up checks with campers and staff, as appropriate.
- Administer daily medications, as necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality for all camper and staff health and private information.
- Provide necessary health resources including : Ongoing best practice training for staff, Stocking of first aid kits, Provision of PPE
- Be present at camp registration to receive medication, communicate with camp families and conduct health screening.
- Provide leadership and role modelling to all camp staff regarding sun safety, healthy eating, and adequate sleep, etc.
- Maintains good communication and public relations with parents / guardians.
- Act as a positive role-model for staff, campers, volunteers, and others associated with the camping program.
- Act as a role-model for personal self-care, including health and well-being.
- Model and uphold all community norms and expectations.
- Model and facilitate a positive, supportive and encouraging atmosphere in the Wellness Centre.
- Provide a safe, healthy, and inclusive environment for all campers and staff.
- Communicate effectively with staff members, senior leaders and the directing team.
- Set personal goals and engage in ongoing self reflection and growth.
- Support the camp program as available and appropriate.
- Other job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C (required)
- Education in a healthcare related field (ie. nursing) is considered an asset but not mandatory
- Strong communication skills
- Strong organization and documentation skills
- Ability to communicate with children aged 5-15
- Ability to communicate with parents
- Ability to maintain boundaries and confidentiality
- Ability to support campers and staff with minor medical and mental health needs
- Ability to use judgement to determine when a camper or staff needs to see a healthcare professional
