Make a difference
Toronto Community Housing has created the Modified Apprentice Program in which, as a Gasfitter Apprentice 2, you will be involved in installing, inspecting, repairing and maintaining gas lines and gas equipment such as meters, regulators, heating units and appliances. You will be working directly with a licensed Gas technician 1 on various appliances at various locations throughout the City of Toronto. This program will aim to provide you with the practical work hours needed to progress in the Gas Technician Licensing process.
What you’ll do
As a Gasfitter Apprentice 2, under the supervision of a Licensed Gas Technician 1, you will perform some or all of the following duties :
Study drawings and specifications to determine the layout of the installation and materials requiredMeasure and mark reference points for installation of gas lines and equipmentInstall, maintain and service gas heating units and their components, such as burners, valves and automatic controlsRepair and service gas appliances and related equipmentTest and replace defective equipment or componentsTest and adjust control mechanisms and check pipes and piping connections for gas leaks using gas detecting devicesAttend to gas emergency calls and assist in the investigationPrepare reports on work performed and condition of facilitiesAdvise clients regarding standards, safety features and maintenance of gas units and systemWork Assignments
Apprentices will be placed at locations where their skills would be most utilized and where there is available work. This may vary throughout the apprentice’s apprenticeship assignment.Tuition Fees
Successful candidates may be eligible for tuition reimbursement while the employee goes to school on their own personal time.What you’ll need
All candidates must hold a TSSA Gas Technician 2 licenseExternal candidates must have 4,000 hours of relevant experience as a G.2‑licensed gas technician with 500 supervised hours working on inputs over 400,000 BTUH. You must present proof in the form of detailed documentation.What’s next

Candidates for unionized positions must score a minimum of 70% to pass any interview or assessment and be considered for the next stage of the recruitment process. Successful candidates will be determined based on score and where applicable, union seniority. Not all candidates who score 70% or higher will automatically proceed to the next stage of the recruitment process as this will be dependent on the number of candidates and number of available roles.
