Your Opportunity :

This Family Counselor position is part of a new randomized controlled trial that will examine the effectiveness of an outpatient suicide prevention for high-risk adolescents.

The hired Family Counselor's main responsibility will be to administer the study intervention using a structured workbook that contains sections for children and their families to complete.

They will also be responsible for liaising with treatment providers and contributing to study data collection and data entry This individual will be responsible for the following : Providing a manualized psychotherapeutic treatment for patients and families.

Administering standardized data collection forms to families. Entering data into REDCap. Participating in team meetings as appropriate.

Liaising with treatment providers and team members regarding patients’ clinical progress and ongoing treatment planning.

Documenting therapy progress in the patient's clinical chart.

Description :

As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community.

You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.

Required Qualifications :

Completion of master's degree in a health related field. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications :

Master’s degree in Social Work or master's degree in psychology Registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers or College of Alberta Psychologists.

Minimum of two years' experience working in children's mental health post-graduation. Experience working with adolescents with depression and anxiety, and their families.

Well-developed therapeutic skills as well as skills in crisis management, family therapy and other mental health interventions.

Preferred Qualifications :

Training and experience with CBT and / or DBT in children and adolescents preferred. Appreciation of the role of research in adolescent mental health, including the use of audio recording.

Interest in learning new skills and participating in research, if appropriate. Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of the health care team and to take initiative and leadership when appropriate.

Ability to adhere to a structured intervention.
