Injection Molding Manufacturing Process Engineer (Automotive)

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Injection Molding Manufacturing Process Engineer to support and improve our automotive manufacturing operations in Etobicoke. This role is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining injection molding processes to ensure high-quality, cost-effective, and efficient production. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with production, quality, tooling, and product engineering teams to support new product launches and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and maintain injection molding processes for automotive components
- Establish and document process parameters, work instructions, and standard operating procedures
- Lead process validation activities, including mold trials, PPAP, and capability studies
- Troubleshoot molding issues related to quality, cycle time, scrap, and equipment performance
- Support new product introductions from design review through production launch
- Collaborate with tooling suppliers on mold design, modifications, and maintenance strategies
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, efficiency, and quality
- Analyze process data and apply statistical methods to drive process stability and improvement
- Ensure compliance with automotive quality standards such as IATF 16949 and customer-specific requirements
- Provide technical support and training to production and maintenance teams
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities for internal and customer concerns
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Plastics, or related field)Minimum 3–5 years of experience in injection molding process engineering, preferably in automotive manufacturingStrong understanding of thermoplastics, mold design, and injection molding machinesExperience with process validation, PPAP, FMEA, and control plansFamiliarity with automation, robotics, and secondary operations is an assetProficiency in data analysis and problem-solving methodologies (e.g., DOE, SPC, 8D)Strong communication skills and ability to work in a cross-functional team environmentPreferred Skills & Experience
Experience with high-volume automotive production environmentsKnowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement toolsHands-on experience supporting mold trials and production troubleshootingFamiliarity with safety and environmental regulations in a manufacturing settingWorking Conditions
Manufacturing plant environment with regular interaction on the production floorOccasional travel to suppliers or customer sites as requiredAbility to support off-shift or weekend activities during launches or critical issues
