Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Operator is part of an effective construction team that successfully completes projects according to approved plans, specifications and applicable codes while maintaining high quality and a safe workplace.
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the scraper for road building and other projects.
Responsibilities
- Operates heavy equipment safely and efficiently according to relevant legislation, policies, procedures and work plans
- Performs daily safety and maintenance checks
- Cleans equipment as scheduled and / or required
- Ensures equipment is safely and securely stored
- Advises Superintendent or maintenance department of any requirements for maintenance or repair
- Participates in routine fueling and maintenance
- Practices workplace safety
- May operate other heavy equipment as required
- May perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
- 2+ years experience in heavy equipment operation
- Experience in a construction environment or in a similar role
- Familiar with construction terms and practices
- Effective verbal and listening communication skills
- Ability to understand and effectively execute verbal and written directions
- Adheres to company Health, Safety, & Environmental reporting and standard assessments
- Must be a team player
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
