Island Health has an opening for a part-time Psychiatrist to join our Developmental Disability Mental Health Team (DDMHT).
The successful applicant will work with DDMHT, providing assessment and consultation to patients from 14 years and up with a range of intellectual disability (ID), including autism, FASD, Down Syndrome and mental health and substance use needs.
As part of DDMHT the successful candidate will join a dedicated interdisciplinary team of Nurses, Psychologists, OT, and Psychiatrists that offer a specialized community based consultation service providing assessment and review, working with family physicians and the community care teams and families that support youth (14 years and older) and adults with ID.
Consultative Service may include telehealth outreach to other parts of Vancouver Island. Another innovative aspect of this position will be helping to design and run modified CBT & / or DBT groups for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health needs.
Patients may be located anywhere in Vancouver Island region. Patients residing in the Greater Victoria area could be seen in person.
Out of town patients would be seen via telehealth. Training on the use of telehealth equipment and procedures will be provided.
On call responsibility is mandatory for Island Health psychiatry services
As Island Health is part of the UBC Faculty of Medicine Island Medical Program, teaching of medical students and residents is an expectation of this role and application to UBC for a clinical appointment is expected.
Participation in research is strongly encouraged and facilitated by Island Health.
Administrative duties of the position include attending clinical team meetings and providing reports to the Department of Psychiatry meetings.
