How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team :

The Hydrogeologist completes routine technical reviews of land development and Environmental Assessment applications, as well as internal projects by internal stakeholders.

These reviews ensure that the hydrogeologic aspects of these applications meet the TRCA policies and Ontario Regulation 166 / 06 requirements under the Conservation Authorities Act.

Major Responsibilities :

• Provides technical advice, in accordance with prescribed delivery standards, to internal and external clients to ensure compliance with the Authority’s programs, policies and regulation requirements
• Provides support to Planners related to hydrogeology technical guidance provided to proponents and their consultants aligned with the Authority's programs, policies and regulation requirements
• Engages and works collaboratively with development proponents, municipal partners, consultants, contractors, TRCA colleagues etc.

regarding applications made under the Planning Act, the Environmental Assessment Act and Conservation Authorities Act

• Supports the review of routine infrastructure projects in keeping with the terms and scope of specific and unique service agreements
• Provides hydrogeological assessments and advice for internal projects and programs, including the Provincial Groundwater Monitoring Network, potable water management, drinking water source protection, capital works monitoring networks, permit to take water, and environmental restoration initiatives
• Provides guidance and oversight to hydrogeologic projects related to TRCA dams and dikes as required
• Designs and executes field programs for the collection of soil and groundwater samples in accordance with Ontario Regulations 406 / 19, 153 / 04, and 903 / 90
• Performs routine maintenance on groundwater level monitoring equipment

What will you need to succeed :

Education (degree / diploma / certifications)

• University degree in Hydrogeology, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline
• Licensed Professional Geoscientist ( with the Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (PGO) or Licensed Professional Engineer ( with Professional Engineers Ontario

Experience

4+ years of experience related to the practice of hydrogeology

Knowledge / Skill / Ability - Competencies

• Thorough understanding of hydrogeologic theories and principles, saturated and unsaturated groundwater flow, and field determinations of the properties of aquifers and aquitards
• Thorough understanding of the regulatory and technical requirements for the installation of monitoring wells and the procedures for the collection of soil and groundwater samples
• Working knowledge of site and feature-based water balance assessments
• Working knowledge of the regional geology and hydrogeology of the Greater Toronto Area
• Experience in dam and dike hydrogeologic processes and systems
• Ability to identify limitations and deficiencies in hydrogeologic studies performed by others.
• Experience applying Ontario’s environmental policies and guidelines to technical reviews
• Strong negotiation skills
• Influences decisions by presenting technical information and evidence in an appealing and easy to understand manner
• Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
