About the Opportunity

Neskonlith Indian Band is hiring a full-time Director of Housing (35 hours / week, 8 : 00 AM - 3 : 30 PM) based in Chase, BC , with responsibilities spanning three communities in the Chase and Salmon Arm regions.

Reporting to the Executive Director and Chief and Council, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the Housing Program, ensuring efficient operations, strategic development, and alignment with community values.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for managing the Housing Department, supervising staff, and ensuring the delivery of safe, affordable, and culturally appropriate housing solutions for the community.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Overseeing daily operations and strategic planning of the Housing Program
  • Managing housing projects , from development to maintenance, ensuring timely and effective completion
  • Inspecting current housing, sourcing new housing, and coordinating necessary repairs
  • Administering housing-related funds, managing financial records, and securing grants for housing initiatives
  • Engaging with community members to address housing needs, educate on housing management, and support homeownership
  • Collaborating with the housing committee / advisory board and other departments to ensure alignment with community goals
  • Managing tenant relations, including rent collection, rental management, and arrears recovery
  • Ensuring compliance with federal and provincial housing regulations
  • Supervising and mentoring Housing Department staff and ensuring performance goals are met

About You

To qualify, you will need a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Business Administration , or a related field, with 5+ years experience in housing management, residential home building, or maintenance .

Advanced degrees or certifications in housing management, Indigenous studies, or project management (e.g., PMP, First Nations Housing Manager Certificate) are strong assets.

The following are also required :

  • Ability to undergo a criminal record & vulnerable sector checks
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License & access to a reliable vehicle
  • Willingness and ability to travel between three communities per organization needs

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued :

  • Proven experience with CMHC programs and Indigenous housing policies
  • Strong capability in financial oversight, budgeting, grant administration, and compliance, including ISC reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated success in managing large-scale housing projects ($10M+)
  • Leadership in managing teams and collaborating with community stakeholders
  • Expertise in policy development and program implementation
  • Knowledge of rental management, arrears recovery, and tenant relations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and housing management software
  • Understanding of Indigenous cultures, particularly Secwepemc values
  • Ability to oversee housing inspections, repairs, and maintenance projects
  • Experience in fostering community engagement through housing initiatives
