About the Opportunity

Neskonlith Indian Band is hiring a full-time Human Resources Manager (35 hours / week, 8 : 00 AM - 3 : 30 PM) based in Chase, BC , with responsibilities spanning three communities in the Chase and Salmon Arm regions.

Reporting to the Executive Director and Chief and Council, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the strategic development and management of the Human Resources Program, ensuring all HR services are delivered respectfully and align with the Band’s values, policies, and cultural priorities.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for the comprehensive management of the HR Department, including employee relations, benefits administration, recruitment, policy development, and compliance with federal and provincial laws.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Overseeing daily HR operations and ensuring alignment with community values
  • Developing and implementing HR strategies in line with the Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP)
  • Managing employee benefits programs and ensuring legislative compliance
  • Leading recruitment, onboarding, and staff performance management processes
  • Advising Chief and Council on HR-related issues and providing regular reports
  • Facilitating training and development programs to enhance staff skills
  • Collaborating with various departments to support community initiatives
  • Maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information professionally

About You

To qualify, you will need a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration , or a related field, ideally with 3+ years of experience in HR management , preferably within a non-unionized environment.

A combination of education and experience will be considered. If you are a recent graduate but have the ability, cultural intuition, and drive to succeed in this role, we ask you to apply.

The following are also required :

  • Ability to undergo a criminal record & vulnerable sector checks
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License & access to a reliable vehicle
  • Willingness and ability to travel between three communities per organization needs

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued :

  • Proven experience managing employee relations and performance management
  • Knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and compliance with the Canada Labour Code and Employment Standards Act
  • Proficiency in HR software, such as HRdownloads, and advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel and Word
  • Demonstrated ability to lead recruitment and onboarding processes for diverse teams across various sectors, including social services, education, and lands management
  • Experience with benefits administration and employee wellness programs
  • Ability to review and revise policies, ensuring alignment with legal requirements and community values
  • Strong financial acumen for managing HR budgets

You will have strong leadership abilities, a collaborative spirit, and the capacity to work independently while also having the cultural sensitivity and adaptability to navigate complex legal and cultural contexts.

A trauma-informed approach and respect for Indigenous customs, particularly when addressing sensitive issues with passionate members, will be key to your success.

The role also involves working closely with various departments and community members to ensure that HR practices support the Band’s broader goals for reconciliation and community engagement.
