The Alberta Public Service (APS) is taking a One Finance approach to the delivery of financial services. Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation Financial Services Division places an increased emphasis in supporting our internal clients in the achievement of the Ministry's Strategic and Business Plans through collaborative and value added initiatives and processes.

As such, we are looking for a finance professional to join our Compliance team. This critical role will support new and existing initiatives, projects, and client focused efforts being carried out by a dynamic team responsible for providing assurance on risks and controls within the department.

Role Responsibilities

Using your well-developed competencies in strategic thinking, results focus, and a collaborative work style, you will develop and administer process improvement initiatives, perform detailed assessments of internal controls utilizing best practices and risk management concepts and provide management reporting on the results of assessment activities performed by the team,

With a strong knowledge of process, systems and change management, you will work with the Manager, Financial Compliance and Systems and the SFO on transformational initiatives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the overall control environment within the ministry, develop and monitor new and existing Financial Policies, Accounting Standards and develop and be comfortable delivering staff training and self-assessment workshops.

Ideal candidates will be self-starters, highly motivated and capable of working with people at many levels within the organization to achieve results.

In addition, candidates should possess excellent financial, accounting, analytical and organizational skills, as well as superior verbal and written communication skills.

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to consider long term impacts and successfully implement change.

Qualifications

University Degree in Commerce, Accounting or related plus a Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) with a minimum of 3 years related experience in Finance Compliance / Risk management or Internal Audit

Preference will be given to those who have :

  • Experience that demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of the Government of Alberta's applicable legislation (eg. Financial Administration Act, Fiscal Planning and Transparency Act, Government Organizational Act, and Alberta Public Agency Act)
  • Previous supervisory experience

Equivalencies may be considered.
