Job Description
Reporting to the Public Works and Construction Supervisor, Grader Operator is an
essential component of the MD of Taber’s Road Maintenance team. This seasonal
position is responsible for a variety of road maintenance duties.
Key Skills
- Experience operating a Grader for the purpose of road building and maintenance.
- Ability to carry out tasks and projects within Occupational Health and Safety standards and municipal policies and procedures.
- Perform daily maintenance checks, and servicing of all equipment operated to ensure equipment is maintained as outlined in the work procedures.
- Proficient with both written and verbal communication.
- Operate the grader primarily for road maintenance and snow removal tasks in the assigned Division.
- Operate heavy and light construction equipment as needed.
- Check and maintain all road signs within assigned division.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Must be physically able to perform duties pertinent to operations. A combination of sitting, standing, lifting, walking, bending and kneeling are required. Work is performed
- primarily out-of-doors involving moderate risks, discomfort or unpleasantness. Typical worksites include a high level of noise, dust, grease or mud, moving vehicles or machines and temperatures varying from very hot to very cold.
- Work overtime as required.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
Security and Safety
- Must be a minimum 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid class 5 with current Driver’s Abstract
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the operation of heavy equipment
- 2 years grader experience.

Requirements
Education and Knowledge Required : Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Familiarity with municipal operations, road construction, and procurement. Comprehensive knowledge of regulations and compliance.
Experience and Technical Skills Required : 3-5 years of experience in Municipal / Public Works or environmental contracting.
Supervisory experience in road and infrastructure construction and repairs. Valid Class 5 Operator's License or willingness to upgrade.
Ability to coordinate Alberta One-Call and manage heavy construction equipment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong organization and leadership skills.
