Who are we looking for?

GHD is seeking a Transportation Master Planning Lead to build and lead our transportation planning practice. This individual will play a leading role in the continued development of GHD’s growing brand across the Transportation market sector and enhance our client relationships and clients’ experience.

While focused in Ontario, this dynamic role will have a line of sight across our Canadian Business from coast to coast. This person will proactively seek and deliver projects for new and existing clients, growing revenue and backlog year over year as part of the Market Plan and Key Client Program.

The ideal candidate will be a technical leader with extensive experience managing and delivering transportation planning studies.

This role is intended for a person with the drive and desire to grow a practice and drive technical excellence. The position will provide opportunities in business development, staff management, and collaboration with related disciplines.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in :

  • Successfully lead and deliver transportation planning studies, master plans, secondary plans, and related work.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the business development strategy within the transportation planning space.

Create capture plans, lead pursuits, and secure new business.

Take responsibility for all aspects of the management of projects from proposal to close-out, including managing teams, sub-consultants, budgets, schedule, quality, safety, and client satisfaction.

Act as a Project Manager or Project Director as required.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to intermediate and junior staff.
  • Collaborate in small and large teams. Lead the integration with other disciplines in the production of high-quality project deliverables.
  • Promote best practices and technical leadership in the delivery of transportation planning studies.
  • Lead and supervise the day-to-day technical activities of a team of professionals working on transportation planning projects.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with strategic clients.
  • Lead the delivery of projects and related work in accordance with GHD policy and procedure.
  • Represent GHD at regional and national transportation events, conferences, forums, undertake speaking or panel assignments.
  • Lead and influence an effective client engagement team, motivate and utilize the team to develop relationships on multiple levels within both Public and Private Transportation Clients.
  • Participate in internal and external market strategy forums.
  • Facilitate relationships between key people within clients’ organization and GHD and actively promote GHD's services to the client.

Key Performance Indicators :

Develop market and capture plans to support revenue growth, client relationship development, and delivery improvements.

Meet or exceed year on year business growth targets

  • Blend client billable work with business development strategies such that you are seen as go to person (internally and externally) to solve client needs.
  • Achieve a billable utilization equal to or greater than 50% over the remainder of the 2024 fiscal year.
  • Actively drive improvements in the quality of client relationship & expansion of the range of services offered to the client including driving linkages between our Advisory and Digital businesses.
  • Establish yourself as a liaison for Canadian delivery to North American key accounts.

What you will bring to the team :

  • Post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering, Planning, or related degree.
  • Designation as a Professional Engineer or Registered Planner in Ontario, or eligible to be designated.
  • 15+ years of dynamic experience in transportation planning, including project management and client management.
  • 10+ years of experience leading and winning new projects in Canada throughout the Transportation market within a consulting business.
  • Proven relationships within the Ontario Transportation market are essential, including municipal, provincial, and transit agencies and authorities such as MTO, Metrolinx, TTC, City of Toronto and other Regional and local Municipalities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Bi-lingual fluency including French would be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with relevant software such as EMME, AIMSUN, Synchro, VISSIM, and ArcGIS would be considered an asset.
  • Proven critical thinking skills with the ability to plan and conceptualize.
  • Proven ability to develop, mentor, and lead professional technical staff.
