Facility Worker
We are currently looking for a Facility Worker to join our team of committed professionals. This full-time summer contract position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s John Island Camp location in Spanish, Ontario .
Reporting to the Facility Manager, the Facility Worker helps keep our camp running smoothly by maintaining a clean and safe environment. This includes cleaning the shower house, dining hall, washrooms, and general camp areas, performing basic repairs, keeping all camp vehicles (including watercraft) clean, and ensuring garbage and recycling are properly removed from the site.

LOCATION : YMCA John Island Camp
RATE OF PAY : $18.00-$19.50 / Hourly
Major Responsibilities
Maintain clean and safe camp facilities daily, including washrooms, showers, dining hall, and maintenance shop.
Ensure timely removal of garbage and recycling from the site.
Safely transport campers and staff to and from John Island Camp, as well as handle other camp transportation needs.
Follow all transportation regulations and safety guidelines.
Support other areas of camp as needed, including Family Camp programs.
Follow YMCA and John Island Camp policies, procedures, and standards.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the smooth operation of camp.
Qualifications
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is an asset
Valid G-class driver’s license
Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification
Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card
Experience with basic maintenance and cleaning tasks
Experience driving long distances on Northern highways
Current and satisfactory Police Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening
CAMP EQUITABLE EMPLOYMENT FUND
The Camp Equitable Employment Fund (CEEF) is a grant created to reduce barriers to camp employment for individuals who have been historically marginalized and underrepresented in the camping industry.
The fund is open to Canadians, ages 18 to 25, who are a part of a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) communities. Ideal candidates will have previous experience, or a demonstrated interest, in working with youth. Camp-specific experience is not required.
Successful applicants will receive financial assistance to offset the personal expenses of working in the outdoor industry. This could include : certification courses, personal gear, equipment and travel costs.
