Overview and Purpose of the Role
Reporting to the Chief of Operations and Chief Nursing Officer and as an integral member of the leadership and patient care team, the Director of Interprofessional Practice & Education provides strategic leadership to advance collaborative clinical practice and professional development across nursing and allied health disciplines. This role is responsible for fostering a culture of evidence-based care, interprofessional collaboration, and continuous learning to ensure the highest standards of patient care. The incumbent oversees the development and implementation of professional practice frameworks, education programs, and competency initiatives that support clinical excellence and organizational priorities. Working closely with clinical leaders, educators, and academic partners, the Director drives innovation in practice and education to enhance quality outcomes and staff engagement.
Key Duties & Responsibilities :
Leadership & Strategy
- Provide visionary leadership for nursing and allied health teams, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and regulatory standards
- Develop and implement strategies to advance professional practice and interprofessional collaboration across clinical disciplines
- Lead initiatives to enhance patient safety, quality of care, and evidence-based practice
Professional Practice
Establish and maintain clinical practice standards, policies, and procedures for nursing and allied health servicesPromote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and clinical excellenceEnsure compliance with accreditation, licensing, and professional regulatory requirementsEducation & Development
Oversee professional development programs, including orientation, continuing education, and competency assessments for nursing and allied health staffCollaborate with academic partners to support student placements and clinical educationChampion lifelong learning and leadership development within clinical teamsOperational Oversight
Manage resources and budgets for nursing, pharmacy, and diagnostic imaging departmentsMonitor performance metrics, patient outcomes, and operational efficiencyDrive innovation in clinical workflows and technology adoptionCollaboration & Engagement
Foster strong relationships with physicians, administrative leaders, and external stakeholdersServe as a key liaison for interprofessional practice initiatives and organizational committeesCorporate Responsibilities :
Participate in all mandatory training requirements and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, company Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelinesBe responsible for and ensure that all staff supervised are trained and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Schroeder Ambulatory Centre Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelinesSkills & Qualifications :
Undergraduate or Master’s Degree in Nursing or a recognized equivalent is preferredRegulated Health Professional with current registration in good standing (CNO and / or MRTO)Completion of a Registered Nurses Program is requiredMinimum 5 years of RN experience, including recent and relevant experience in nursing leadership, advanced practice, or a comparable role is requiredDemonstrated theoretical and practical experience in adult educationExperience in educational program planning, development, and evaluation is preferredCurrent Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Level II – Basic Rescuer certification is requiredSpecialty certification relevant to area of responsibility is requiredStrong teaching and adult learning facilitation skills is an assetMembership in a related professional association or interest group preferredExcellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex information to diverse audiences, including senior leadership and external stakeholdersStrong organizational, strategic planning, and prioritization skills, with the ability to meet deadlinesExperience managing or collaborating with support services such as pharmacy and diagnostic imaging is an assetStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in collaborative, team-based environmentsDemonstrated ability to make sound, independent decisions and solve complex problems aligned with organizational goalsProven ability to work independently while mentoring team members and leading cross-functional teamsAbility to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive informationStrong analytical and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to identify root causes and implement innovative solutionsProficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check and vulnerable sector checkAbility to provide proof of immunization and TB recordsSchroeder Ambulatory Centre is a non-profit medical facility dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Ontarians through accessible, outpatient healthcare.
