This position is on-site in Burnaby, BC.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Hardware Development, you will work with a multidisciplinary team to complete product development, maintenance, and research tasks for manufacturing wireless endpoint and modem products used in the utility marketplace. Responsibilities include :
- Analyzing and identifying design requirements.
- Delivering and supporting robust hardware in embedded micro-controller systems.
- Managing thermal design for electronic enclosures.
- Rapid prototyping and debugging.
- Ensuring designs are manufacture ready and testable.
- System integration and commercial release validation.
- Interaction with test labs for regulatory compliance.
- Sustaining commercially released products.
- Sourcing and qualifying alternate components.
- Updating schematics and layouts.
- Conducting field RF propagation testing.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer or Electrical / Electronic Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in hardware design for embedded systems.
- Design experience in analog / mixed signal circuitry and power supplies.
- Thermal analysis and heat extraction expertise.
- Testing for regulatory compliance and reporting.
- Providing firmware developers with hardware validation insights.
- CAD software proficiency for schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Circuit analysis using tools like LTspice.
- Experience with test equipment : oscilloscopes, AC / DC sources, thermal imaging.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across multiple OEM platforms.
- Environmental and reliability testing experience.
Desired Experience
- Experience with UL and CSA safety regulatory bodies.
- High current switching circuit design and thermal management.
- Knowledge of open standard network communications.
- Proficiency in Altium Designer and mechanical design tools like SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of shielding and isolation design for RF and digital circuitry.
- BC professional engineering certification or willingness to attain it.
