Job Summary :
The Garden Program Coordinator is responsible for planning and overseeing all aspects of the William E Live More Community Garden and Park.
The Garden Program objectives include facilitating engagement with participants and community members, educating folks on growing food and healthy eating, and providing knowledgeable and therapeutic experiences for our participants.
The Community Garden Coordinator works collaboratively with Community Recreation staff, volunteers, members, and community partners.
Reporting To : Lead, Community Recreation & Wellness
Task & Responsibilities
- Oversees the day-to-day operation of the community garden program by ensuring that the necessary facilities and equipment are in place, program guidelines and policies are adhered to, and program and safety standards are met
- Participates as a team member and communicates effectively with members, volunteers, and Northwood Bedford Campus staff.
- Creates a program plan that includes plans for planting; procurement of seeds, plants and
supplies; maintaining garden beds in the Park & Garden and identifying community partnerships.
- Contributes to a positive, supportive and rewarding person-focused program aimed at improving mental and physical wellbeing
- Supports hiring process of summer term garden and program staff.
- Records and maintains stats and data that reflect the program’s markers of success. Participates in the development and completion of an evaluation plan.
- Trains, coordinates, supervises, and mentors program volunteers and summer term staff who support program facilitation and garden maintenance duties.
Qualifications :
- Applicant must be entering full time post-secondary studies in the fall semester immediately following the work term OR continuing full-time post-secondary studies following the work term.
- Applicant must be a permanent resident of the province or live in Nova Scotia for at least six months prior to the work term.
- Experience facilitating educational and / or therapeutic programming
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or as a team
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge / experience with vegetable gardening and landscaping
- Proficient using basic hand tools and gardening equipment
- Experience working with older adults (an asset)
- Experience providing supervision or mentoring (and asset)
Salary / Benefits : $18.30 per hour
Hours : 35 hours weekly - Days
