OPERATIONS MANAGER

YOUR ROLE
Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations Manager will lead and optimize pulp manufacturing at the Kamloops mill. They will provide leadership to a group of more than 150 salaried and union personnel. They will coach, develop and evaluate performance of direct reports by way of the Employee Development and Performance Appraisal Review (EDPAR), and promote the Kruger Way, culture and continuous improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate will have an advanced level of knowledge and a demonstrated track record in leading and managing world-class safety performance, expertise in pulp production, human relations, continuous improvement and a strong technical background. This position oversees the Fibreline, Power & Recovery, and Logistic areas.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
üResponsible for managing operational safety, environment, quality, budgeting and costs while achieving production goals
üDeveloping and implementing operational strategies, managing teams, fostering continuous improvement, and contributing to the overall profitability and growth of the operation
üCo-ordinating with Operations personnel to ensure that the Kamloops Pulp Business System is understood, implemented, continuously monitored and improved
üEnsuring personnel are trained in job duties and aware of the responsibilities, authorities, and interrelationships of personnel who manage, perform, and verify work affecting their areas
üResponsible for production planning, including shutdown scheduling
üResponsible for ensuring commitment to continuous improvement and prevention of pollution
üResponsible for the Operations Business Systems which assures compliance to the ISO 9001 : 2015 AND ISO 14001 : 2015 standards. Participates in the ISO Management Review process
üOversees corrective and preventive action procedures
üInvolvement in emergency and safety response and preparedness, has authority to initiate mill or mill area shutdown or slowdown based on environmental emergency or compliance issues
üResponsible for the integrity of the work processes and practices within the Power & Recovery and Pulping Business Systems
üResponsible for warehouse management and shipments
üResponsible for reporting of key metrics to site and corporate stakeholders
üParticipating in community and stakeholder engagement
YOUR SKILLS AND ABILITIES
üStrong technical knowledge in Kraft pulping
üStrong mechanical aptitude, expertise in reliability and advanced knowledge of continuous improvement principles and techniques
üStrong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
üSkilled in change management, people leadership, and developing a team
üAdvanced knowledge of capital budgets and long-range planning
üKnowledge in pulp sales
üAdvanced knowledge in shipping and logistics
üWorking knowledge of BC Hydro rate structures and purchase agreements
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
üYou hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field
üYou have a minimum of 7 years of leadership experience in pulp operations
