Senior Hazardous Materials Specialist – Dillon Consulting Limited

Join our multidisciplinary team to deliver integrated and superior customer experience on contaminant assessment & management projects. Your work will shape how we protect the environment, communities and public health across Canada.

Locations & Work Flexibility

  • Calgary, Edmonton, Chatham, Guelph, Kitchener, London, Windsor, Downtown Toronto, North York, Hamilton, Oakville, Ottawa, with preference in Fredericton, Saint John, Moncton, Halifax, Sydney, St. John’s
  • Flexible work hours and hybrid work arrangements available to balance work and personal life.

Responsibilities

  • Train and mentor staff on Hazardous Materials Assessments.
  • Establish and maintain standard protocols and reporting standards.
  • Technical review and risk management for hazardous materials assessment and management projects.
  • Manage and coordinate projects and technical studies for a variety of environmental assignments.
  • Prepare and present reports and proposals.
  • Direct and instruct project team members including natural scientists, engineers, planners, technologists and technical support staff.
  • Enhance client relationships and develop new business opportunities with both public and private sector clients.

  • Commit to self‑development and ongoing learning to stay knowledgeable of industry best practices and advancements.
  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.
  • Mentor junior staff, providing technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring.
  • Qualifications

  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Hazardous Materials Management, Environmental or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 10 years’ demonstrable experience conducting all aspects of hazardous materials work, including large‑scale asbestos survey and abatement projects for industry and government clients.
  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude with a commitment to technical excellence.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; able to read, comprehend and proof‑read written reports and correspondence.
  • Experience

  • Formal hazardous materials training.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of applicable regulations, standards, guidelines, best practices and monitoring protocols related to hazardous materials.
  • Strong computer skills, primarily with Microsoft Office programs.
