Plumber - Maintenance TechnicianNorthern DistrictLocation : New Glasgow, Nova ScotiaType of Employment : Full Time, Term (up to 1 year)Union Status : USW Local 3172-09Competition # NOR 24160Closing Date : November 18, 2024About Our OpportunityReporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician (Plumber) is responsible for carrying out those duties normally associated with the trade(s) in which they have become qualified under the Apprenticeship and Tradesman's Qualifications Act of the Province of Nova Scotia (inter-provincial certifications), including but not limited to installing, repairing and maintaining pipes, fixtures and other plumbing service systems in buildings within the Northern District portfolio.
The incumbent may also be responsible for maintenance duties which includes carrying out material and equipment installations, renovations, repairs and servicing in the following areas - plumbing, heating, electrical, painting, ventilation, carpentry, landscaping and grounds-keeping on property, under the jurisdiction of the NSPHA.
ResponsibilitiesInstall, repair, and maintain plumbing systems and components, which could include water treatment equipment, piping, controls, underground storm sanitary and water piping systems, sinks, tubes, toilets, water heaters and / or conditioners, plumbing fixtures, appliances, trim, and assembling / installation of valves and fittings.
Carry out preventative maintenance to all buildings, appliances, fixtures, utilities and equipment in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.
Prepare and complete documentation such as work orders, vehicle reports, maintenance logs, inspection reports, and inventory records.
Provide recommendations regarding the replacement and acquisition of materials and equipment.Monitor contractors engaged to carry out maintenance contracts.
Maintain buildings and grounds in clean and proper order.Other assigned duties.QualificationsCertificate of qualification under the Apprenticeship and Tradesman's Qualifications Act of the Province of Nova Scotia or interprovincial certification (Red Seal Journeyperson certification), plus three years of experience in building and property maintenance.
Must have strong math skills with knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, physics, and shop.Knowledge of planned maintenance procedures as well as an awareness of building codes, municipal by laws, Provincial Acts and Regulations such as Workers' Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and appropriate fire regulations.
Communication skills, both verbal and written and interpersonal skills are required in dealing with tenants, staff, and contractors.
Possess competencies in computer applications such as Microsoft Office.AssetsEmergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications.
