The Medical Communications & Information Directors will be accountable for supporting planning and leading delivery of our Medical Information (MI) services for assigned therapeutic areas.
They are pivotal in ensuring quality, accuracy, and integrity of our GMI LTO activities, content delivery, and US Medical Legal Review (MLR).
They are required to lead a dynamic team of MI Associate Directors and MIMs, including OSPs.
Medical Communications & Information Directors will be reporting directly to the Senior Medical Communications & Information Director.
The Medical Communications & Information Directors will be expected to deliver on existing pipeline of work, with new efficiencies and support in place to improve productivity, prioritisation, and capacity of their teams :
Key Responsibilities :
Oversee Scientific Responses and Medical Information :
- Manage and oversee scientific responses for medical inquiries.
- Develop comprehensive medical information materials.
- Participate in the review and approval process for promotional and educational materials.
- Support medical education initiatives for end collaborators, including physicians and patients, across their indication.
- Keep up-to-date with the latest scientific developments, clinical data, and treatment guidelines related to the assigned indication.
Content Strategy and Collaboration :
- Partner with GMALs to develop and implement a content strategy for the relevant indication(s).
- Work closely with teams in medical affairs, clinical development, regulatory affairs, and branding to ensure accurate and timely communication of medical information to both internal and external partners.
- Implement the strategic course for medical information and communication at an indication / asset level for the respective therapy area.
- Make autonomous decisions regarding budget and resourcing plans, with support from senior directors in the Content Excellence teams.
- Curate and disseminate content developed by partner functions through the appropriate channels to end team members.
Leadership and Team Management :
- Lead a team of Medical Communication & Information Associate Directors & Managers.
- Serve as a liaison between the team and senior leadership, conveying updates and setting goals and priorities.
- Facilitate training opportunities, in collaboration with the Training and Transformation Senior Director, to improve the team’s skills and knowledge.
- Participate in the onboarding process for new team members, ensuring they have the vital resources and support to integrate seamlessly into the team.
- Collaborate with the MI Insights & Analytics Associate Director to identify and implement innovative ways to optimize and tailor the delivery of GMI reports across team members.
- Engage with the Customer Experience Manager to integrate feedback from collaborators and markets to deliver scientifically accurate and relevant information.
- Coordinate with the Training & Transformation Director and other Medical Communications & Information Directors to implement and maintain clear SOPs and guidelines to support GMC&I activities.
- MI Deliverables :
Execution of MI Deliverables :
- Responsible for the day-to-day execution of MI deliverables, aligned with the prioritization framework developed by the Senior Directors (in collaboration with GMALs), relevant for their indication.
- Manage promotional reviews and scientific messaging consultations (US only).
- Respond to medical information requests (US only) and address sophisticated medical inquiry escalations from local markets.
- Develop Medical Affairs content (Global & US).
- Leverage insights from the MI Intelligence and Planning team to tailor medical content.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of content strategy, in partnership with GMALs, for the relevant indication(s).
- Collaborate with other MedEx functions (MSLE, OMT, ODI) to align and deliver MI activities aligned with a content strategy.
Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential :
- Advanced degree in Pharmacy (PharmD, Phd, MD preferred), Pharmacology, science, or equivalent clinical experience.
- 3 years leadership / management of Medical Information Teams / projects
- at least 2-5 years of experience working with Commercial or Brand Teams in a pharmaceutical company
- Ability to apply Global and US legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements as it applies to Medical Affairs.
- Demonstrated expertise in drug information communication and management.
- Demonstrated expertise in the review of promotional materials.
- Experience with delivering MI services at a global and local level
- Ability to translate scientific data to various audiences.
- Ability to apply Global and US, legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements to Medical Affairs activities and drug information delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, teams and resources (suppliers and budgets).
