What you’ll do

  • Supervise Lab Assistants and other designated staff by performing duties such as scheduling, coordinating and prioritizing work assignments, assisting with evaluating employee performance, and determining related training and orientation requirements.
  • Perform clerical duties such as compiling outstanding reports, contacting patients as directed by the Team Lead, answering the telephone and entering patient information and test results into the laboratory information system.

Respond to lab related inquiries from other health care professionals.

  • Perform the duties of a Laboratory Assistant as required including specimen collection, preparation and testing and related clerical functions.
  • Provide feedback into the department's orientation, policy and procedures manual on areas pertaining to the work performed by Lab Assistants at the assigned site.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area according to established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain statistical and departmental workload records; complete quality assurance audits according to established procedures;

prepare related quarterly, monthly and ad hoc summaries and report; utilizes word processing spreadsheet and presentation software.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

What you bring

Qualifications

Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program, plus three years' recent, related experience including one year in a supervisory capacity or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have : Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
