The Business Development Manager plays a critical role in driving Toromont’s market position and achieving financial growth targets within Toromont Energy and Energy Solutions. This senior-level role focuses on defining long-term strategic goals, building key customer relationships, identifying new business opportunities, negotiating and closing deals, and maintaining deep knowledge of market conditions and industry trends across Toromont’s territory.
The position collaborates closely with internal teams—sales support, marketing, engineering, finance, and account management—to increase sales opportunities and deliver sustainable, profitable growth.

In a typical day, YOU will experience
The primary role of the Business Development Manager is to prospect for new customers and opportunities by networking, cold calling, advertising or other means of generating interest and leads. Must then plan persuasive approaches and strategies that will influence potential customers to do business with Toromont. Retain and grow existing accounts by influencing and presenting new solutions and services to customers. Develop a rapport with new customers, set targets for sales and provide support that will continually improve the relationship.Active participation in related industry trade associations to influence Toromont energy solutions. Leverage industry trade association lobbyists to ensure eligibility provincial and federal government energy programs. Active participation in stakeholder sessions to influence favourable technical and contractual terms.Pipeline management and forecasting. Follow up on customer requirements and quotes. Develop response to customer needs and prepare quotes, technical submissions, etc. Engage the management team as required to develop and execute the business.Utilize sales planning tools and evaluate customer opportunities, marketplace opportunities and economic trends. Develop as a inimum, a key account plans, business plan and territory plan per year. In addition, as required, develop and submit quarterly mobjectives and week-ahead plans. Complete administrative portion of the role including but not limited to pipeline management, Saleslink, IMACS, Quotelog, and other sales reporting to ensure good record keeping.Strategic planning is a key part of this job description, since it is the Business Development Manager’s responsibility to develop the pipeline of new business coming into Toromont Power Systems. This requires a thorough knowledge of the market, the solutions / services the Toromont can provide, and of our competitors.Must-haves for this role
Engineering or Business Degree from accredited University is preferred8 + yearsMinimum years of experience requiredExperience in electric power generation systems, renewable energy, power plant operations, capable of preparing detailed engineering and financial studies and turnkey project costing is extremely beneficial.Attention to detail, ability to manage and balance multiple tasks at the same time, takes ownership and accountability for decisions made.About Toromont Cat Power Systems
