PRIMARY PURPOSE
To provide full scope facilities support to the Global institute for Food Security (GIFS).
NATURE OF WORK
The Operations Coordinator position is responsible for supporting the daily operations and general maintenance of GIFS facilities.
This role ensures the safe and efficient functioning of laboratory environments, supports GIFS platforms and programs, and assists in the routine maintenance of lab and greenhouse equipment.
ACCOUNTABILITES
Safety and Compliance :
- Ensure all laboratory activities comply with safety regulations and policies.
- Dispose of waste materials safely and according to regulations
- Maintain waste removal logs
Equipment and Supplies :
- Manage inventory through regular monitoring, replenishing and ordering of supplies in the lab and greenhouse.
- Keep accurate records of stock levels.
- Assist in the purchase, installation, and maintenance of lab equipment.
- Regularly calibrate, and coordinate the repair of instruments and equipment
Support for Platforms and Programs :
- Assist platforms and programs with lab setup, experiments and operations, as required.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the lab and greenhouses and ensure equipment is cleaned and stored properly.
- Schedule and coordinate the use of shared lab spaces and resources.
- Assist in the operation of the autoclave for sterilizing equipment and materials.
Data and Documentation :
- Maintain accurate records of lab activities, equipment maintenance, and safety inspections.
- Prepare and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety manuals.
Delivery Receipt, Distribution & Shipment
- Receive incoming deliveries and ensure timely distribution of items to appropriate locations.
- Receipt and logging of samples for technology platform services.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of samples.
- Prepare and package items for shipping.
- Coordinate with shipping services for pickup and delivery.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (, science, engineering, facilities management) or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in laboratory environment, facilities coordination, or a related role.
Skills :
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with laboratory equipment and safety protocols.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of building maintenance and facility management.
- Require lifting and moving of equipment and supplies, up to 50 pounds.
- Strong safety acumen as you will be required to handle and interact with lab chemicals and equipment.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for events or urgent facility needs.
