Our client, is seeking an experienced, highly analytical AML Developer IV (Senior Data Scientist - Financial Crime Risk Management) to join their Advanced Analytics and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) technology group.
In this high-impact consulting role, you will lead data science and analytical activities supporting enterprise Financial Crime Risk Management (FCRM) and transaction monitoring platforms. Working independently as a senior technical lead, you will design, build, and optimize predictive machine learning models, execute AML/ATF scenario performance tuning, and conduct transaction monitoring model performance monitoring. Operating in a hybrid model, you will leverage Python, PySpark, Databricks, Azure, and SQL to mitigate money laundering and terrorist financing risks while establishing structured documentation to satisfy audit, compliance, and regulatory standards.
Duration: 6-Month Contract (with potential for extension)
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days per week on-site: Anchor days in Markham/Toronto corporate offices; subject to future operational adjustments)

Responsibilities
Predictive Modeling & Machine Learning: Use advanced statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to build, tune, and maintain transaction monitoring, customer behavior, and risk scoring models.
Scenario Performance Tuning: Conduct data science activities related to AML/ATF scenario performance tuning, anomaly detection, and ongoing model performance monitoring.
Data Platform Engineering: Develop and execute analytical queries and data management solutions on PySpark, Databricks, Azure, and SQL to handle enterprise-scale transactional datasets.
Audit & Regulatory Documentation: Maintain structured, audit-ready documentation demonstrating effective scenario review programs that satisfy internal compliance and external regulatory expectations.
Stakeholder & FCRM Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional FCRM teams and Global AML stakeholders to translate complex analytics into actionable business insights and support model implementation.
Thought Leadership: Stay ahead of developments in data science, data mining, and machine learning to champion creative analytic solutions across the organization.
Qualifications
Predictive Modeling & ML Depth: Extensive, hands-on professional experience building and deploying predictive models using advanced machine learning methods.
Core Technology Stack: Expert-level proficiency in Python, PySpark, Databricks, Azure, and SQL.
Statistical Analysis & Data Mining: Expert data exploration, statistical modeling, and data mining skills applied to complex business challenges.
Banking / Financial Services Background: Prior experience operating in a financial institution or banking environment.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to explain complex machine learning models to non-technical stakeholders and audit partners.
Preferred Assets & Nice-to-Haves
Direct domain knowledge in Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF), or transaction monitoring systems (e.g., FCRM).
Programming expertise in Java or Scala, and data visualization experience in Tableau.
Active certifications in Databricks, Azure Data Science, or statistical analysis.
