Knowledge Management Counsel

About the Role:

A leading Canadian business law firm is seeking a talented Knowledge Management Counsel to join its Knowledge Management team in Toronto, Ontario. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with 2 5 years of client-facing corporate, M&A, and securities experience who is intellectually curious and interested in applying legal knowledge, research, drafting, and technology skills in a sophisticated knowledge management environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with lawyers across multiple practice groups to develop and maintain legal precedents, identify and organize valuable knowledge resources, monitor legal developments, and create practical tools that improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of legal services. This role offers greater autonomy and balance while remaining connected to a highly sophisticated legal practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of new legal precedents and update, improve, and automate existing precedents.
  • Draft and annotate model legal documents and other knowledge management resources.
  • Work closely with lawyers to identify, collect, organize, and maintain practice resources and research materials.
  • Collaborate with practice groups to understand their knowledge management needs and implement practical solutions.
  • Respond to requests for knowledge management resources using internal collections and enterprise search tools.
  • Monitor new legislation, regulations, case law, and other legal developments relevant to the firm's practices.
  • Contribute to current awareness initiatives and develop knowledge resources addressing emerging legal issues.
  • Author client-facing legal publications, updates, and thought leadership materials.
  • Leverage precedent and current awareness work to provide lawyers with practical guidance on legal issues.
  • Prepare and deliver training sessions for lawyers and law students on knowledge products, resources, and solutions.
  • Promote awareness, adoption, and effective use of the firm's knowledge management resources.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology and AI to improve legal research, knowledge sharing, and practice efficiency.

Required Qualifications:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • 2 5 years of client-facing legal practice experience, ideally within a top-tier transactional law firm.
  • Experience in general corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and securities transactions.
  • Strong academic credentials with excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional legal research, drafting, and writing abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly and concisely.
  • High level of comfort with law firm technology, including AI-powered tools and legal technology platforms.
  • Willingness and ability to develop proficiency with new technologies and knowledge management systems.
  • Strong client service orientation with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized, motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with lawyers and professionals across the firm.
