In this dynamic role, the Consultant, Governance and Controls will take ownership of a dedicated portfolio of controls, conducting thorough testing on both their design adequacy and operating effectiveness. As a Consultant, Governance and Controls, you will work closely with a supportive team of testers and reviewers, playing a critical role in evaluating regulatory controls and ensuring independent oversight across enterprise risks.
This contract opportunity offers a initial 12-month duration with strong potential for extension or conversion to a permanent FTE role based on performance and business needs. The role is offered on a hybrid work model, requiring 2 days per week on-site at a modern downtown location (Wednesdays and Thursdays, plus the 1st Friday of each month), giving you the perfect balance of collaboration and flexibility.

Responsibilities
-Manage and execute control testing for an assigned portfolio within Risk Management in accordance with internal control policies and user guides.
-Plan and perform design adequacy and operating effectiveness testing, including population identification, sample size determination, sample selection, and test approach formulation.
-Thoroughly document test execution results, control gaps, and deficiencies within the eGRC tool.
-Complete appropriate gap and deficiency documentation forms whenever testing identifies operational or design weaknesses.
-Collaborate effectively with stakeholders and cross-functional team members to articulate testing findings and recommend potential process changes.
-Identify operational challenges and efficiency opportunities, proposing and implementing creative, structured solutions.
Qualifications
Must Haves
-3 to 5 years of hands-on control testing experience.
-Direct experience in internal audit and/or external audit.
-Proven track record of evaluating control design adequacy and operating effectiveness.
Nice to Haves
-Functional knowledge of risk management practices and regulatory compliance frameworks.
-Prior experience with a major accounting firm.
-Professional certifications or designations such as CFA, CPA, CIA, or equivalent.
